but side question, since almost every rodeo ive seen and been to has a giant amount of confederate flags there, do people see that as racism, or southern pride? I ask because there was this beautiful leather belt with a confederate flag buckle that I was wanting to buy...but the gf kept pulling me away saying its way to racist to wear in the city...

beautiful leather belt, eh?

Dem tittays iz racsist.

I've never seen more Confederate flags than I have since moving to Abbotsford. You'd have a difficult time explaining some connection to Southern pride all the way up in Canada. It's a symbol of White Pride racists as far as I'm concerned.

Well, my friends call me a redneck lol

And yes, the belt and buckle was quite nice, along with some of the cowboy hats that I was tempted to buy..

They're both retarded, the racist bitch and the one begging to be hit gets hit and then files a complaint with the police. I don't know what was said but sometimes it's just better to shut your mouth and walk away fi you don't want trouble. If you're going to sit there like a yappy dog don't cry when you get bit back. Not sure what the fat broads issue is either, get a fucking life.

Cloverdale rodeo is all skids, don't expect anything else if you go.

although that is a pretty bold statement, i'd have to kind of agree....looking at all of my "friends" on facebook who get stoked to go, they would tend to land in the "skid" category.

Different people are going to have different views, but I think its a statement you are making by showing it...and that statement isn't solely "southern pride".

I'd go with your gf on this one, and leave that on the rack. Even if you are purely wearing it because it looks cool, or holds your pants up or was free..you never know when some dude is going to take it the wrong way.

And I'd be careful man, because they're fast runners.

Funny how I also know exactly who you are talking about without even looking. Did she manage to keep her top on for this event?

Pretty sure touching/saving something that dirty will give your computer a virus.

I consider the confederate flag to have a multitude of meanings; support of slavery, a symbol of southern/'redneck' pride, and rebellion. In Canada, the latter two are clearly more common. That being the case, I wouldn't view a confederate belt buckle as potentially racist in our area... leave it on the rack, though. I put 'redneck' in parentheses earlier, because 'rednecks' are city kids acting out an image... putting on cowboy hats and boots, dawning confederate flags, arranging trips to Cloverdale, and overall attempting to conform to an image. It's silly... I'm embarrassed for people who do it.

Cloverdale Rodeo is 'redneck' halloween for skids.

It's the one weekend a year they wear a cowboy hat, drink beer outside, and maybe, see a girl barrel racing, instead of wearing Ed Hardy shirts, doing shots at Mirage, and seeing a girl pass out on a dance floor.

I’m white, and any time I see something with the southern flag on it, first thing that comes to mind is racism. The second is “dumbass”. There really is no reason to fly the flag unless you are looking to provoke people. If you are, then expect people to view you a certain way and treat you as such.

Yes, the argument can be made for the confederate flag to “represent” something else, but it IS the confederate flag (or one of) and one of the reasons the confederate states were fighting was to keep the right to own slaves.

You would have a hard time justifying why you were flying the flag, to me anyway, for any other reason than to show that you believe in some time of race separation or subjugation, especially seeing as we are not IN the south.

As far as the girl in the video, bitches be crazy yo.

sorry but I gotta disagree with ya there. i'll agree with the symbolism of redneck and rebellion, but everyone who lives in a city acts out an image, whether its a punk, goth, emo, skater, hipster, or the 'im just being myself' image, I think everyone falls into a group. to me it was just a belt and a buckle that I liked, no different than an Asian kid(first example that came to mind) walking around with 900 hello kitty items attached to themselves or a dashboard with 30 bobble heads. its just something they like. I don't really see anything silly about it.

im a city boy, I don't wear cowboy boots, I don't wear cowboy hats, don't listen to country music, and I def. don't go to cloverdale more than 1-2 times a year. but I do go camping, fishing, shooting, bon fires, 4x4ing as often as im able to..which is quite a bit. so am I trying to live up to an image? or just saying "hey I know what kinda lifestyle I live, and I quite enjoy it and am proud of it"?

the confederate flag is so played out, to me its just a sign of "redneck" now. and im quite fine with that.

To clarify, I wasn't directly referring to you, rather, a segment of society.

In the city: a punk can be a punk, a skater can be a skater, and a goth can be a goth, because those are city occupations. Those people act the part, dress the part, and live the part - they are who they 'claim' to be.

In the city: you cannot be a redneck, you cannot be a farmer, because those are country occupations. Fishing, hunting, and 4x4ing doesn't turn a city boy into a country boy, but 'rednecks' (I'm not saying you do this, Stewie) pretend it does, and reaffirm their weak position by wearing cowboy hats and bolting on confederate license plates. Really, they're just city boys who like to fish, hunt, and 4x4, which is totally cool, it's living the best of both worlds.

I went to the rodeo for the first time on Sunday, took the kids for the carnival aspect of it all and can confirm; plenty of skids at the rodeo. It was almost hard to distinguish between patrons and those operating the rides. Buncha carnies. :lawl:
