I don't know. I've really never experienced either, but I think the film does an impressive job of portraying the struggles and bitterness that he has. I think anyone that has any rational thought could understand being disabled, especially physically, in any way, would be awful unless you had the appropriate mindset to embrace it. It takes a very specific kind of person, in a very supportive surrounding (usually) to remain positive.
