I wouldn't wanna be arrested or pulled over by this officer Lol. Not only did he man handle someone with a similar body structure and age as him, he also did it while being interviewed.

The filmer pissed me off. The officer is trying to pin someone down, and he's interviewing him.

The cop is being interviewed because the guy filming is on the phone with 911. Cameraman is only relaying questions the 911 dispatcher is asking.

How did he handhold such incredibly smooth video?!

Yea, I know that. But if I'm the Filmer, and if I'm not gonna help the guy, I'm sure as hell gonna tell the dispatcher its not the best time to ask questions.

Dispatcher is only gather necessary information to relay to the responding officers so that they can react properly when they arrive. i.e. if any weapons are present, how bad of a struggle is occurring, verifying that the Polish guy is a member.

Need more of this everyday if we are ever gonna call Vancouver "the best city to live in"

chouchou 06-08-2013 02:16 PM

Keep in mind the filmer mentions various times to the dispatcher that he can help, but emphasizes that the cop has a pretty good hold on the suspect - and that he does.

The Province has an story on it: Video: Off-duty Mountie grapples with alleged shoplifter for five minutes until arrest is made

Basically just a brief summary of what happened in the video:
Quote:

VANCOUVER — An alert videographer captured a struggle between an alleged shoplifter and a man who chased him down and pinned him for five minutes until police arrived.

The epic ground battle posted to YouTube Friday was easily won by the citizen making the arrest — which might have something to do with the fact he's an off-duty North Vancouver RCMP officer.

The video begins with the pair grappling on foot briefly before the Mountie flips the suspect to the ground in an alley near St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver.

While struggling to get away, the suspect insists repeatedly that he left the allegedly stolen items back at the store the duo raced away from.

"I put the stuff back," says the suspect. "Let go of me, man. You're ruining my life!"

As they continue to struggle, the videographer, still filming the action, calls 911 and calmly relays to a dispatcher the progress of the citizen's arrest.

"I'm a police officer, OK," the Mountie explains to the frantic suspect, while giving out his badge number and saying he's in plain clothes because he's off duty.

As sirens draw near several minutes into the wrestling match, the agitated suspect again shouts, "My life is ruined!"

Three Vancouver cops then arrive to handcuff and arrest the man.

it is funny how one story good or bad will change someones judgement towards a federal police force.

Don't know how much help a 69 year old would do with restraining a guy half his age anyways.

GodZilla 06-08-2013 04:07 PM

Did anyone check out this guys youtube channel? Tons of videos on there.

Oscar_Binswood 06-08-2013 06:13 PM

Oddly enough, my buddy also off duty member at the time assisted an LPO who was struggling with a resisting thief near the skytrain station on the same day.

Ronin 06-08-2013 07:37 PM

He ruined his own life. He had outstanding warrants, which means he's hiding for other crimes. He just so happened to have been stopped by this dude. He should get no sympathy from anyone.

Youtube has a function were it can artificially stabilize video footage.

Stabilize Your Camera Footage Using YouTube's Video Editor
