ok then.. lets replace what this guy shoplifted with stuff taken from your car? I doubt u would say the same thing. Hes not hurting anybody else. We should just let him take your stuff.

kudos to the off duty rcmp showing restraint, shame on nobody offering the off duty rcmp a hand

drunkrussian 06-08-2013 10:39 PM

cop's knees must be scratched up as a motherfucker from that...sucks that on his day off he had to have an unplanned brazilian jiu jitsu session

Timpo 06-08-2013 10:50 PM

This is a good officer, no unnecessary violence or excessive use of authority.

On a side note...I got FALSE ARRESTED by security guard from FBIG for shoplifting. What a fucking douche he was.

Timpo 06-08-2013 11:19 PM

and yea, nobody was helping...citizens and security guard just standing there..we could let North Vancouver RCMP know that he did a good job though.

As much as we all want to be heroes.

There was really no point in jumping in on a situation like this.
First of all, it just looks like a struggle between two men.
No one besides the camera-man at that point knew he was an off-duty officer.
If anything, knowing he was an off-duty officer would make people not want to interfere with "police matters" then.
You'd figure an officer knows what he's doing.

On top of that, it doesn't look like he needed any real assistance.
The suspect didn't look like he was even struggling that much.
He only rolled around a bit, but never tried to attack the off-duty officer.

So besides the possibility of getting sued and all that, the situation wasn't worth getting involved in.

Like what would you have expected? 4 guys to come in, so each person can hold down a limb?

I mean, this isn't a situation where there's like 4 guys jumping a guy or something.

You sure it wasn't an LPO? From my understanding, security guards aren't permitted to make actual arrests.

Which store did this happen at?

It was at Thrifty Foods.
He was employed by a security company called FBIG.

This is was excessive force looks like.

LOL
Looks like the cop got 2 day suspension...what a joke. MORE INFO: Victoria police officer who abused authority suspended without pay for two days - Local - Times Colonist

The Crown Counsel says he is NOT guilty for kicking http://sixthestate.net/?p=991#more-991

He should have got much longer suspension, criminal charges or warning for the termination of employment for next occurrences.

IMO nobody needed to or would have stepped in since the guy had the other in control. If things got out of hand, then I think people would have stepped in.

Exactly. Pretty sure the officer would have preferred no one handle him except himself. (As long as it was under control)

dinamix 06-09-2013 11:28 AM

yeah too much liability here.

-crackhead could have a needle
-crackhead could die
-crackhead wrongfully accused
-crack gets insured during restraint
-not a real police officer

so many things could come into play.
Not worth it to intervene.

subordinate 06-09-2013 11:31 AM

word, 4 pages of this is too much.

True, probably 15 years ago I started breaking a fight up between two woman. I walked out of a corner store in Burnaby and there going at it probably 3 people just watching. I get between them trying to hold the one doing the most damage back. After I get them separated I realize there prostitutes. Honestly, if I realized before hand I probably would have let them go for a few of the reasons above. I felt quite dirty after but no harm no foul fortunately.

ohh yeah he was wearing casual clothe.

But what's the difference? Does LPO have the same authority as police officer?
He was employed by FBIG, not RCMP or municipal police department or anything.

An LPO has no more power than the ordinary citizen.

494. (1) Any one may arrest without warrant

(a) a person whom he finds committing an indictable offence; or

(b) a person who, on reasonable grounds, he believes

(i) has committed a criminal offence, and

(ii) is escaping from and freshly pursued by persons who have lawful authority to arrest that person.

Arrest by owner, etc., of property

(2) Any one who is

(a) the owner or a person in lawful possession of property, or

(b) a person authorized by the owner or by a person in lawful possession of property,

may arrest without warrant a person whom he finds committing a criminal offence on or in relation to that property.

Delivery to peace officer

(3) Any one other than a peace officer who arrests a person without warrant shall forthwith deliver the person to a peace officer.

In that situation, it may be a bit difficult for bystanders to help without the proper training. Awesome job by the officer.

Furthermore, even though Security Guard's and LPO's both have the same right as regular citizen's to apprehend, that task is often left for LPO's. The job of a Security Guard is to deter and report crime, and in this instance, he should've assisted by calling 911, but failed to.

In terms of the false arrest, if I were you, I would file a legal lawsuit against FBIG and get a settlement out of court.

I was not sure how much settlement I could get...and I know it takes a long time so I wasn't sure.
Because I didn't end up getting serious injury...the only thing that I could argue about is emotional stress, which I guess is hard to prove compare to physical evidence.

I think it's been more than a year so it's too late.

But FBIG was very rude and unprofessional though.

The LPO had no idea what he was doing, he caught me and made the whole thing overly eye-catching to other people in the store, by grabbing me and lifting me up, on top of that, smashing me into the window.

And in the office I was like "yeah call the cop! and you'll get in huge trouble!" and he got all scared and kinda kicked me outta office. Without taking my info. He had no ground that I actually stole anything.

I had to go work so I left the scene. And the manager of FBIG calls me and says because I left the scene, that made ME look like I was guilty for stealing something. I told him that LPO was the one who kicked me out without taking any of my info. On top of that, I had like 30 witnesses and 15+ state of the art HD security cameras recorded the whole thing.

Anyways, apparently he(LPO) wants to be a cop so I was wondering if I could report his name to any police department that shares all the network with RCMP/municipal police/military police etc...so that if he ever applies for the job, these things will be questioned during the job interview.

But yeah, I should've filed legal action...oh well

spideyv2 06-10-2013 02:06 AM

^what were you accused of taking? did you conceal the item and decide to ditch it at the last minute?

Very rarely will an LPO go to that extent unless he's positive you selected and concealed something. If you truly didn't conceal anything, the LPO sounds like he fucked up, big time.
