do you guys just reseal with the oem sealant and silicone on top?
currently have a headlight painted and waiting for resealing. some people say silicone is fine others say it's not

jtrinh 07-18-2013 07:07 AM

I reused the oem sealant but one of my headlights has slight condensation, even with vent tubes. If you think some areas look thin in that oem sealant, then get some butyl rubber tape/3M window ribbon. Try Lordco, an autoglass shop or the dealer.

how about some more detail?

how long in oven and at what temp? or heat gun?
how many clamps were used if any?
how long does it take per set of headlights? full 8 hrs?

come on... 'private modders' want to know these details!

twitchyzero 07-18-2013 08:59 AM

are you able to do most of these mods without getting a VI? looks like a fun project.

NEVER reseal with oem sealant. get a flathead and scoop out the old sealant as much as possible. and than apply new glue in the trench of the headlight where old sealant used to be

one more important thing to note, is to make sure the housing is FULLY dried. let it dry for at least overnight. If you don't let it dry enough and use them, the heat from the light will oxidize the wet paint and bake the paint oxidization on to the lens of the headlights...

Actually, I did none of those things and mine work fine lol.
I knew the risks when I was being lazy and I lucked out...

That being said, if I was doing again, I'd do it properly like you said :drunk:

dinfung 07-19-2013 08:18 AM

did my light and now every time i was my car have crazy condensation. Seal the light with new seal too, does it mean I haven’t sealed it properly?

Phil@rise 07-19-2013 09:02 AM

I use windshield urethane to reseal when I do them. Never had a problem with condensation.
