Great place.

Hard to park.

Delicious = 2010 Restaurant of the Year Award (re: Vancouver magazine) + 2007 to 2013 Best Seafood Restaurant (re: Vancouver magazine) - that's.... 7 years in a row.

Specialities = wagyu beef (they only carry 6 to 10 ounces every other day... you have to ask in advance just in case) + Chef Yoshi on the sushi chef table always delivers fresh and great tasting sashimi (like fresh off the tank lobster sashimi - in house).... Seafood towers are very fresh... Swimming scallops for appy always delivers

Prompt and courteous service.

For weekends, book 7 days in advance.

Birthday party?

40 to 50 people - reserve 4 months in advance - Pacific room - very private - basically a big wine room with a big open glass sliding door on one end and a refrigerated wine room within a wine room on the other end.

10 to 20 people - Arctic room (splits the Pacific room in half)

10 or fewer - main dining room (or you can request the Arctic room if it is not a busy day)

This is probably just me because apparently all the review sites, people etc think this place is the shit. I've been twice and wasn't really impressed at all. Both times I went was about 4 years ago so it's been a while although they were highly talked about then as well.

I can't remember the exact dishes I got but I do remember I got a variety of stuff from the full on seafood platter, to fish, to steak etc. As for the place itself it was a nice place, decent vibe, I do remember service was good but I went for the food and I haven't gone back again also because of the food. It wasn't horrible, not at all, but it wasn't anything where I went wow that's pretty good I gotta come back here again. Vague comments I know, It's been years so I can't remember very specific details about the taste.

I've taken the wife there once, we also had a big seafood platter on ice. It was really good. Not going to go out of my way to go back, but would definitely eat there again.

Its more of a place to be seen. The food is good, but I could rattle off probably 25 restaurants in the city off the top of my head that are substantially better food for substantially less money.

I've sent alot of guests that stayed at the hotel I work at to Blue Water Cafe and no complaints. That being said, people that choose Joe Fortes over Blue Water literally come and find me the day after and tell me how good it was (and sometimes give me a nice gratuity).

blue water is great. some of the better fish in the city, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

if you have a big enough party, they have a back room surrounded by wine that is gorgeous.

I've been to Joe Fortes a few times and Blue Water many more times.

I find that, Joe Fortes serves good food at a "good value" price point.

Blue Water serves dishes that is a little better at a higher price point.

For the seafood tower type of "dishes", I would say that Joe Fortes is better.

For cooked dishes, Blue Water is better.
