Anyone tried this plan (port from rogers to Virgin?) [Elect] [Merged] VAN: BB/virgin $29 for the $39 plan for port in customers from Rogers/Fido - RedFlagDeals.com Forums $39 plan with $10 port-in credit for 24 month. This make it $29 for 2 years. My spouse's plan is up in 3 month, I am thinking about just paying the ECF ($20/month, minimum $120?) and swap to virgin. I already own S3 Tell me if its worth it, I must to get N4 $99 for this deal (according to bestbuy mobile, new phone activation only), I can just flip the N4 for $300 and keep my S3 unlocked to virgin. Best plan rogers can offer is $45 with 1000mins, all unlmted 6pm/wkn, 500mb, cid/VM, ulm text/pic/video.. (3yrs term) plus S4 $199 extra Does virgin charge other fees? like 911, government regulatory fee. etc? or is it just $29 plus tax? http://imageshack.us/a/img545/2016/4hd4.jpg |
I think I'm going to go through with this tomorrow. For me to cancel from Rogers is $230. In the remaining time of my contract, I'd actually save $180. I'll just take the $50 as a "get out of contract" fee. However I chatted with the BB Mobile guy in Metro, and he said it's month to month (and you don't have to buy a phone). I'll verify again tomorrow when I go through the process. |
I dont think they would offer that plan on a month-month... I think only if you sign on for 2 years... |
interesting... im with Rogers with only 3 months left as well $125 to cancel let me know how it goes Posted via RS Mobile |

The 2 years means you'll be getting that plan for 2 years, and would be able to cancel any time with Virgin; as long as the phone tab is paid off. (this is all according to the rfd forum) -- OP if you're planning to get the Nexus4; its actually $99 for the phone + $150 tab. You would be able to flip the phone on Craigslist for $300 and pay off that tab in the end. I think i'll be cancelling with Rogers and going with this method. Virgin which is essentially Bell which is essentially Bell/Telus/Koodo 4G/LTE network. They all share the same network. |
I realize Virgin doesn't clear your tab after 3 years, and it continues on unless you pay it off, unlike Fido tab24 or Wind mobile that clear your tab after 2 yrs of staying with them. |
So I didn't end up doing it because you are required to buy a phone that I don't need or have time to sell. Otherwise, I would've eaten up the small loss cancelling to have the ability to pay 29 a month for 2 years. |
Just thought I'd bump this with my experience. So I ended up going through with it after a brutal call with Rogers regarding retention plans. Anyways if you go by the book, in order to qualify for the port credit, you must:
In addition to those requirements, other (pricing) information is as follows:
So after all that, the employee that helped me figured out a way to maximize savings by signing up for a Silver Plan first (which is $150 upfront for the N4 but a $150 tab), and you get the gift card from Best Buy. After activating the plan, he just called and upgraded to the Gold Plan, and wrote everything down on my invoice in case anything goes awry. So in total, I paid $150+tax up front for an N4, and left with a $50 gift card, $150 tab, and $29 plan. I also plan on selling my N4 to recoup some of the costs as I'm still really happy with my S3. I got this done at the Metrotown BB Mobile Shop. Great customer service. |
I will throw in what i did, I port over at surrey bestbuy, I paid $49.99 for N4 and got a 50$ gift card back. The mobile guy signed me up straight with Gold Plan for $29. I got a LTE microsim and there is not charge on that and also no activation fee. So i walked out of there spending $56 dollars for N4 with $300 supertab on my account. I sold the N4 for $300, and has a gift card for $50. I have heard better story about metrotown bestbuy giving out $125 gift card. There is a secondary option of taking a 10%discount on the gold plan $39 if you use your own device. But that way you won't get the -$10 credit. PS. Virgin really aren't marketing this deal very well. The Bestbuy staff only found out through me asking them about it, and he had to dig through a bunch of paper from staff training. No one in bestbuy is signing up with virgin when i was there. I saw 2 people locked into rogers new contract for a $59 plan and 1 fido tab29 $39 plan.. |
^ Probably because the kickbacks from Virgin Mobile aren't that great. |
I was really thinking about it.. but Im also thinking about the whole Wind sale thing... if Verizon can get it, I dont want to loose my unlimited plan.. but their data speed and coverage/signal is very weak... arg!!! Im thinking maybe I can tough it out for another 6months and take a gamble things will turn out good... |
About Verizon: Even if all goes well and they take over Wind, that doesn't mean that they'll start building towers to increase service quality in Canada's metro areas, let alone do all that in 6 months. Just my 2 cents. I'm assuming you're not covered with 600mb, but keep in mind that the $10 credit applies to their 50/60 dollar Gold Plans as well. |
I dont expect verizon to build out HSPA AWS or even fix it.. heck even if I was operating verizon, I would waste money on it... but Im just hoping they will grandfather the unlimited plans when they roll out their LTE network  But I dont expect that until late 2014... thats why I said I will wait and see whats going to happen at the end of the year.. you dont know who will take over |
I'm assuming in your particular case that Wind's reception and signal strength aren't as bad as what people say. I'm not too familar with how everything works, but wouldn't their theoretical LTE network just use a different frequency band on their already-existing towers? Unlimited LTE is fine and dandy, assuming the network is more or less reliable. The latter point, however, I've yet to see from either Wind or Mobo. I'm not trying to pick an argument with you. Actually it's quite the opposite. If what you're hoping for is likely to happen, perhaps I should keep my Nexus 4  |
LTE can be on any band.. you just need to configure it.. Rogers has its right now on 1700mhz and 2600mhz, I believe, which Wind uses 1700mhz as HSPA AWS... So Verizon can build out the LTE on 1700mhz if they wanted too and they can roll it out, use the rest of the HSPA AWS that Wind started and refarm it work with LTE.. Overseas, I think they use LTE on 2100mhz.. But they could just start with 700mhz when the auction come live, use the current 1700mhz has a backup to the 700mhz or use it in more rural areas... |
@m3thods: Since signing up with Virgin, hows the coverage/reception with it so far? Any problems since signing up? |

I get my first bill tomorrow, but even if there are any issues I just need to get them resolved by BB Mobile since they wrote everything down, including the promo code. Overall, I'm very pleased with everything, especially since I'm only paying ~$30 a month. |
Does anyone know if this deal is still up with the same minutes and data? |
Until July 31st |
Does anyone here have a Virgin Mobile refer-a-friend code? If so, PM me :) |
