If I buy it back can the car still be insurable?

I think rhd automatically goes to dismantle status(parts only) instead of salvage(fixable)

Depends, case by case. The other option is to ask the adjustor for a cash payout for the damages and you keep the car. Last time I did that, over 15 years ago, ICBC gave me 70% of the claimed amount for the parts only. They do not pay out for the labour portion of the estimated repair cost, unless things have changed.
