| Suggestions for a new point and shoot?
Any good suggestions for a decent point and shoot?
Really interested in photography recently but I don't want to get a DSLR just yet. Too expensive at the monent for just a hubby and I am not sure if I will grow into the fact I will need a heavy carmera whenever I want to take a picture.
I perfer either Canon if possible because in the future if I do like photography I will buy a DSLR from Canon so it might be better to get use it. I will consider other brands as well if it is a good deal.
Budget $200 to $400. Thank you!

$200-$400 may not get you much as for a camera to do much creative with.
If you are looking for small but are interested in photography I would suggest the Canon EOS-M.
Its a Canon camera, like you wanted, but it is very compact and is a mirrorless camera. So you have the same sensor as a 60D or T4i or 70D in a VERY compact body. Add to this the ability to interchange on EF and EF-S lenses with an adapter and you have the ability to get STUNNING shots without the bulk of a larger DLSR.
Keep in mind, with a small camera like that you will sacrifice some performance. They do not do to well in fast paced situations and the AF system on the EOS-M is slow when compared to a DSLR of any brand.
If you do portrait shots or planned photos where you know where and when the shot will take place this would not be an issue for you.
The only down side I see is it is outside your budget unless you can find a sale or a used one.

It's a bit of a stretch, but you should be able to find a used RX100 in the low 400.
It's one heck of a camera. The IQ is comparable to APS-C DSLRs.

RX100 should be coming down in price a bit more since the RX100 II is out. It's low light is close to mirrorless in terms of image quality but APSC still beats it.
Definitely the one of the larger if not largest sensor in a pocket camera.

Why get an RX100 if an APSC sensor equipped camera beats it?
EOS-M is same price and has APSC sensor, is compact and versatile.
What benefit would you get from the RX100? I have little experience with non-slr cameras.
