150-gigapixel panoramic photo of Tokyo

Tokyo Tower Gigapixel Panorama

Quote:
This is a 150-gigapixel image shot from the top of the Tokyo Tower. It was shot in September 2012 with the kind assistance from the management of the Tokyo Tower. The trip to Tokyo was sponsored by Fujitsu Technology Solutions, and this panorama was rendered and edited on a Fujitsu Celsius R920 workstation.

This image was shot with a Canon 7D digital SLR camera, with a 400mm telephoto lens. The camera was mounted on a special "gigapixel robot" called the Clauss Rodeon. This programmable robot allowed the camera to move and shoot very quickly, so that it was possible to shoot more than one photo every second.

The image was shot from four different locations around the top of the tower; each section was stitched together into a panorama, and then these panoramas were joined together to make a full 360° image.

See our other recently-released Tokyo gigapixel panorama from the Mori Tower in Tokyo Roppongi district for another amazing view here.

You can see our other world record gigapixel images we have made of Prague, London 2010, and London in 2012.
The zoom on this thing is absolutely amazing

yeah this is kinda sad, because 10-15 years ago...you'd see bunch of sportscars, modded minivans, etc...

It being Japan, I tried to find some funky looking cars. Only interesting ones I could find were that 'Vette and a Ferrari California. Oh, and a Dodge Ram 1500 of all things

That would be a USDM Dodge Ram. The boats don't all return empty after dropping off their cache of Skylines.

American SUV's and Trucks are pretty exclusive in Japan.

Also, people who own really nice cars (modded/high perf.) in Japan are typically car geeks, who wouldn't be cruising around Tokyo with the windows down and music playing. Need to go to car shows/meets to see them, or just get lucky randomly on the highway.

Cars on Tokyo streets are generally boring. It's a pedestrian city - most of the cars on the road are working/business vehicles.

Unless you're into American cars, I would expect you to be surprised. Muscle cars are very popular in Japan, so many prestine examples being brought over from NA, just like we bring over nice Japanese cars.

Challengers, Chargers, Camaro's, etc. Trucks are also "in season".
