I hear rumours that it was a suicide

From the sounds of it, it was a hiker. Even investigators are very puzzled.

I hear ya. Freak accident, yeah. But the odds are better of that happening on the peak of the chief than tripping on the sidewalk into an oncoming car.

If it was a suicide....man, I sure as heck rather go out on overdosing than falling off a cliff. Dreams coming to fruition....

That's a rather selfish thing to say, you learn to be like that from your dumb family?

Families getting out and being active - we need more of that encouraged.

nvm, misread...need more coffee.

I've done the chief before, it's very safe. Planning on going there pretty soon. RIP

As others have mentioned, the only real dangerous part of the hike is the peak where there are no barriers.

This is the first time I've heard of something like this happening, so I really hope that this doesn't dissuade others from doing the Chief.

The hike is safe like others have said, from what I heard the girl was rock climbing up the face of the chief and not hiking. I also heard that she was possibly rock climbing by her self which I don't think is a good idea, If were ever do rock climbing I would definately have at least one to two others with me and never alone. RIP to her.

pretty safe till you get to the top. then its sheer terror for me.

slopes all around 360 degrees. not a guard rail in sight.

i couldn't get off that thing fast enough.
