I don't believe one car enthusiast in the entire world would be impressed by this "sti" package. You can get better sti packages from the girls on the corner of seymour and helmcken.

Pretty sure it can get around a track faster than a normal BRZ.

I dont hear the S2000 guys bitching about the S2000CR that also had no power increase.

The thing is I don't think people found the s2000 "underpowered" per say though, like basically everyone says about the fr-s/brz. The STi nomenclature left something to be expected with the rumours and those weren't delivered upon, so its kind of an apples to oranges comparison, or at least gala apples to granny smith apples.

Im guessing the guys at Subaru are thinking that they could make a faster car without adding horsepower and by fine tuning the balance of the car.

Sure they didnt add power, but at the end of the day the objective to improve it over the standard model is the same.

(im not a big fan of the stock engine either...)

there are a few insiders saying that there is definitely a turbo version in the works for the GT86/BRZ.

that banner on the BRZ at fuji speedway still reads "ts concept". I'm sure what was on display was just that. probably got the dress up parts ready, but the drivetrain is still being tested in secrecy.

If they were to make a AWD turbo brz. 230hp/200trq. That would be the end of all complaints.. Kinda like the vw Golf R but stick the sti tranny power delivery system (what ever u call it.. Totally forgot now) so we can throw down come nice power slides

no awd on this please. keep it rwd. that's why they have imprezas

it is disappointing that the sti version doesn't have turbo, but its understandable from a business point of view. they don't want to cannibalize their sti sales. i'm guessing the demographics for sti and brz buyers are very, very, similar

Agree with no AWD, keep it a "fun" RWD car, add turbo.

I feel what you're saying tofu, but lets face it, guys love hp.
I truly want an frs, or better yet, a BRZ turbo. The current hp figures are sorry to say the least. especially considering the fact they've been selling us stupid fast cars for over a decade already. My Sti is fast. I want to start with something at least closer to 300hp if I was to buy a Brz. It's only respectful to us, their loyal customers. I have the aforementioned Sti, and a Tundra, so I'm familiar with both dealers.

we want turbo!!!!!!!

There not made to be fast in a straight line, go auto-x the car and forget all about the non-turbo stuff.

If you want power then go buy an STI.
Why can't we have FRS/BRZ handling/chassis dynamics AND power?

250-60hp would be a good number for this, no reason it can't be achieved within a reasonable pricerange. They could throw a smaller more responsive turbo on the 2.0L to get to that number or do it through tuning. Doesn't eat into the 2.5L 300hp of the STi at all. The WRX is already faster than the STi in some aspects, but all is still fine in the world.

+1 on keeping it RWD. But U think the STi and BRZ demographic is vastly different though. The STi is a daily driveable beast with power and practicality, for somebody willing to give up some driving engagement for pure brute power. The BRZ, even a 260hp STi model, would still be realistically a 2 door 2 seater. It would still handle fantastically and connect the driver way more directly than the current STi could. It wouldn't be as fast stock for stock, but it will offer the more complete experience. Right now the BRZ only offers the handling part of the experience IMO. I personally don't feel its underpowered for how I would every drive it, but I could see why the majority would.

BRZ is DESIGNED to be a balanced knife of a car, not a brute that overpowers other cars. I have driven and worked on many FRS's and they are near perfect for a drivers car. The power is less than other "sports cars" but its enough.....much like the AE86 was.
It was "underpowered" but that brought out other skills in the driver to make up for the lack of power. An underpowered car is a great way to learn how to drive a car properly.

There is plenty of power to get you in trouble in the car, if you need more there is a lot of aftermarket out there for the BRZ/FRS.

Adding a turbo to a car like this will only result in killing off the reason this car was even made.

Lightweight, fun to drive, simple, and reliable.
Turbo adds complexity, heat and often times, lowers the reliability because of those two factors.

I will soon get a LOT more seat time in FRS's so perhaps my perspective will change, but coming from owning 3 AE's in the past, the lack of power brings out the skill in the driver.

2JZGE swap with ITB's....I believe there is a swap kit to fit a 2J in there. If I picked up a FRS it would be 2J swapped ASAP.

to be honest, i rather they come out with a version that produces 200whp (~15-18whp than now) and is around 1100kg (vs the stock 1250kg)

it would be a car that is faster than a lotus elise, same as a stock exige and best of all, affordable for many people

more HP is great, but personally i rather have a car that is light, fuel efficient, and reliable for a dd/track car

1250kg is already incredibly light for a sport compact these days taking modern safety standards into consideration
to remove another 100-150kg will mean aluminum/CF parts and going back to the drawing board = price will skyrocket into Elise territory...it's easier to just fit a turbo in

considering the base gt86 is 1190kg, if they shave off a little more down closer to 1150kg and up the power a little (tune etc) so it produces 200whp

look at the AJR BRZ for example, tune + bolt on brought it to 200whp and its producing pretty good lap times at track days at the moment
it doesnt need to have higher HP to make a fast car around a track (look at miatas + elise) and provide a truly excellent driving machine

imagine if the STi version of the BRZ is that, it would be an awesome car and keep those who prefer NA happy + it would be tons of fun

It's usually 15% from crank to wheel...So the stock BRZ will make around 170whp, to make 200whp it would need to be rated at 230hp at the crank.
