Subaru BRZ STI

Subaru Disappoints with New BRZ ts Concept as it Reportedly Brings No Power Gains [25 Photos] - Carscoops

As we anticipated when we first saw the "ts" designation on the BRZ's teaser photos from the official Subaru STI site, the new version of the rear-wheel drive sports coupe will not come with extra punch from its boxer engine. Subaru displayed a concept-badged, but in reality, production ready version of the new BRZ ts by STI at the 86 festival at Fuji Speedway this week.
While the horsepower figure remains at 200, there are some worthy additions to the tS variant of the BRZ. For starters, there will be two versions of it, one of which will simply be called simply “tS,” while the other the “ts GT Pack” and it adds all of the extra bits bolted onto the exterior of the car – the white car they unveiled featured the GT Pack…

The regular BRZ tS does without the pack's nice-looking Recaro front seats and black rims, but the special badging and updated fog lamp surrounds remain, as do the suspension mods.

Finally, according to 7Tune.com, a BRZ fitted with the GT Pack, featuring the standard six-speed manual, will cost the equivalent of $41,500 in Japan, but keep in mind that it may very well be a JDM-only model.

I'm a little disappointed, looks like a regular BRZ

Lomac 08-07-2013 11:16 PM

No thanks.

I had high hopes for the BRZ STI as well. :okay:

dared3vil0 08-07-2013 11:18 PM

waste of time subaru...total waste of time...

Sunfighter 08-07-2013 11:43 PM

That car has no business wearing an "STI" badge... I love all Subaru cars but they shouldn't damage the STI brand like this...

Needs vinyl STI stickers for the true hp boost

Poor execution of the STI branding.

if we know anything about car history it is that any version in japan is better than the version we get over here.. so if that is shit.. imagine how much worse our version will be! :okay:

If you want a FRS/BRZ with power, you bought the wrong car.
There not made to be fast in a straight line, go auto-x the car and forget all about the non-turbo stuff.

If you want power then go buy an STI.

white rocket 08-08-2013 10:53 AM

Pretty disappointing with no turbo. Even Fiat turbo'd there Abarth trim.

then just name this Track Edition or something and leave the STI badge out

most associate the STI name with turbos (and AWD but I dont expect them to change the drivetrain to a production model car...unless they wanna be awesome a la VW R32)

they should bring the barebone model here

freakshow 08-08-2013 11:29 AM

It seems like they had a surplus of STi stickers, and just needed to use them all up

this was a really good idea, essentially a blank canvas :fullofwin:

the new boxer handles power much nicer than the old 2.5 engine so it is already a nice platform.. i do agree, they should not release an STI version that isnt turbo.. was kinda the whole point of "STI"

Lomac 08-08-2013 12:12 PM

The biggest problem I have with the appearance package for this STI is that the spoiler looks like someone went to the equivalent of Wal-Mart in Japan and bought a cheap wing for the trunk. That style just doesn't look good on this thing.

But yes, that barebone base model would be an awesome thing to get. I'm all for non-powered everything when it comes to buying a car I want to track on a race course.

see.lai 08-08-2013 05:38 PM

Well,
if they were to make the BRZ faster, then they would somehow have to up the power of their WRX STI, since that is their flagship car.

godwin 08-08-2013 05:59 PM

The barebone model is the Toyota not Subaru. Subaru still has shortages.

Besides even if the barebone model comes, chances are it will only come to the US, since Canadian dealers like Richmond Subaru etc just love to pile on the extras to pay for their crappy sales staff.

Case in point, Subaru has some barebones Legacy Outback etc, they are never available in Canada.

ae101 08-08-2013 06:14 PM

came in not disappointed, but left with disappointment :okay:

TRD Rs200 08-08-2013 08:55 PM
