DID SOMEBODY SAY SLAMMED?!!!
(picture me flying in with a cape.)
Seriously driving a slammed car in this city is so mellow. You ever have any big trips where you want to go camping, crank up the coils. You shouldn't be driving fast enough on shitty roads to do damage anyways. Make sure your wheels fit and don't mangle your fenders like a retard. You will regret it.
Winter height driving to Edmonton.

Wow westopher, you're crazy. I would never drive my car at that height in Alberta.

dared3vil0 08-13-2013 11:32 PM

Hmmmmmmmmmm... I think i liked the wheels in the second pic better.

westopher 08-13-2013 11:33 PM

I did too, but remember when I said don't be a retard and destroy your fenders? Lol thats what those did.

dared3vil0 08-13-2013 11:36 PM

Well i suppose that's a remarkably good reason to swap them out.

I daily'd a lowered TL for 5 years. 1 year with a 2000 naples gold metallic TL and the rest of the time with a nighthawk black a-spec TL. never again will i DD a lowered car. like ever. i drive a 2011 f150 now and dat ground clearance man, i can go anywhere i want with the truck and i dont have to worry much. plus i can cruise over those stupid speed humps at 40km/h, not in school zones of course.

Is there seriously another purple Corrado out there?

:lol

westopher 08-14-2013 08:22 AM

It wasn't really that purple. Moonlight blue pearl was the colour. A lot more navy, I was just an even worse photographer back then.

hotong 08-14-2013 08:42 AM

looks purple

westopher 08-14-2013 08:53 AM

Must have been mislabeled by VW then.......
My M3 is purple, the corrado was blue.

Drove around like this for a few years - a drop of 1-2" on H&R springs? Just had to watch out for speed bumps and avoid steep ramps!

Don't have the car anymore, unfortunately...

My celica was on H&R springs and KYB AGX's, it wasn't too bad. You'll learn to spot the hazards pretty quickly (after hearing the disastrous scrape). The car came with rigid mudflaps, so for the most part the scrapes came from that. Most damage was from going down into the parking lot at the London Drugs in Kerrisdale :lol

icemiko 08-14-2013 11:51 AM

Most of the cars that I owned was lowered, never really had any problems around Vancouver, you just have to be careful over speedbumps, pot holes, ramps etc.

jnesss 08-14-2013 12:32 PM

thanks for bringing this up op. and thanks to trill for the suggestion - just picked up a set of teins from the speed syndicate ;)

My previous car was a 2G DSM that was dropped a couple inches. The frame rails were within a few inches of the ground at any given time and I destroyed 2 exhaust systems - while driving with caution.

Here's what I noted from driving a lowered car:

-Speedbumps are obviously a pain. Driving over them at a 45 degree angle will usually get you over. I still got stuck (yes, literally stuck) on a couple bigger ones that required pushing the car off.

-You'll start avoiding certain routes to skip a few speedbumps. You'll also start parking in areas ludicrously far from your destination.

-Potholes are magnified. Almost destroyed a wheel one time hitting a pothole at 60k in the rain.

-Entering and exiting driveways is a hazard for your bumpers. It also becomes a safety hazard when you need to pull a slow left turn into a driveway with some oncoming traffic to avoid ripping off your bumper.

-You can't park like everyone else, pulling your bumper over the curb, otherwise you'll crunch your bumper. Same thing with opening the passenger side door while parallel parked next to a sidewalk. Your passenger will hit the door on the curb. it sucks.

-Visibility is further reduced in making left turns, especially if there's a large vehicle on the other side.

-large trucks won't see you as easily. A girl I know driving a Miata almost got hit from behind because a semi forgot she was in front of him.

-Rocks that would normally chip your bumper chip your windshield.

Overall, lowering the car made it look a lot better but it was a pain in the ass and at many times a safety hazard. My current car is riding at stock height, and I'm as carefree as a bird. Driving a slammed car forces you to pay a lot of extra attention. I took for granted how relatively stress free it was to drive a normal car.

Simplex123 08-14-2013 02:08 PM

Is the cost of installing coils/springs relatively similar?

vantrip 08-14-2013 06:24 PM

SLAM IT!! worry about potholes after:)

jpark 08-14-2013 06:59 PM

i get around fine. and my car is pretty loaw

:lawl:

BoostedBB6 08-14-2013 10:44 PM

I have driven many stock ride height cars and bottomed out or hit some serious pot holes that really jolted the car.
Now ask yourself, if you drop that same car 2-3", you are smashing the frame/oilpan/tranny/exhaust on the ground......so I dropped the car 4". If its dropped 4" that only leaves half an inch for it to fall and that wont do as much damaged.....slammed life logic FTMFW
