Good idea to drop your car in Vancouver ?

Hey guys, was planning to get coil overs or springs for my car, but I'm afraid being too low you will not be able to get over speed bumps? I have seen some low cars in vancouver, even flushed but Not sure, is -2.1/-1.9. Not completely dumped, but I think that will be no wheel gap. You guys think that be ok to clear bumps without scrapes :/ . I want to low my car, but dont know if its a smart thing to do since we have so many derp roads .

Let me know what you guys think and experiences or tips ! thanks

My MR2 is only dropped just over an inch on TRD springs and I have to be careful not to scrape.

I think your mentality should be that it is NEVER a 'good' idea to lower your car, but if you want that look then you have to accept the tradeoffs. I don't know how these guys with the hellafrush dumped look do it... way too far into the "car owns me, I don't own car anymore" category for my liking.

Roads here suck so bad there's so many times even with my drop on Koni's that I get aggravated by all the thunking and clunking.

depending on car 2" might be quite a bit. It's really hard to say, because it depend where you are going to drive to and what you really want out of your car. My car is dropped 3" and I still daily my car with out much problems.

Lowered my first Civic when I was in high school.... never going that route again.

IMO it's just not worth it with our shitty roads and driveways and speedbumps. I hated bottoming out daily even when being careful. I admire and respect those who brave it out though.

The way I see it is you have to know that you're going to be sacrificing a lot of things. You gotta know no more 50km/hr speed bump. No more driving wherever you like. No more driving like you're half asleep as you gotta be paying attn. for examples I'm sacrificing driving on hwy 1 ATM. I don't take it at all as there's too many bumps n crap. I know I gotta go slow over every bump and if ppl r behind me I move to the side and let them pass me so I don't get rear ended lol and I know that I have to take the same safe route that I know that has less bumps and holes. Overall.. Just know what you're getting into lol

The sound of my car scraping over the slightest bumps gives me such a cringe

If you think lowering 2" is bad, this is someone with a car that's >4" lowered compared to stock, no camber kit, dampers set on the hard side, on low profile tires with an overall diameter that's smaller than stock

If I didn't have seat cushions in my car - my back would've broke by now

To each their own, had the car "slammed" for a bit, was fun and all. Decided it was more fun to drive the car like it how it was meant to be driven. Raised it a bit so I could actually turn and never looked back!

On a more serious note, Vancouver isn't a terrible city to drive a car slammed.

mhmm, interesting opinions. Yeah I guess springs would not be the best choice because I can not adjust them. If I'm on coils I can just switch when my " fun" is done and raise. But yeah the roads here are too bumpy :/ . Especially when I go to metrotown for dimsum that road there.... god forbidd. Might settle for coils now so I can get the best of both worlds kind of thing going on.

Thanks for the opinions guys app it.

and to that @Nodnarb guy, haters gonna hate bruh. Hate on some other thread.

lowering/slamming a car is a big trade-off. you lose a lot of drivability in favour of looks (preference).

it really is just about how dedicated you are. my car is not that low, but its enough that i have to be very careful when i drive. i personally love the slammed/stance scene and am willing to take the sacrifice to keep the look.

its just a matter of whether or not you are willing to trade off function/drivability for looks.

vancouver roads are not that bad.

OR OPTION 2:

bag the car, problem solved.

No kidding. What roads are you guys driving, that I keep hearing how shitty our roads are?
There's shitty roads everywhere. Aside from construction and a few spots w/ unusually high speedbumps, our roads aren't bad at all.

lol same, I only had my accord lowered 2 inches I believe, and with my front lip and sides and rear lip...I could push a coke can while driving lol.

next vehicle I did the exact opposite....suv with a 6" susp lift with 34" boggers as my daily drivers lol. made driving more fun...snow...no problem, mud, piece of cake. opened up a whole new world for camping and adventures for me.

Dropped about ~1.7 inches for function, but I've set my coils for medium damping so I can soak up some of the more common bumps. Driving the roads at SFU make me cringe, and with passengers and cargo in the back (because family car), I scrape even with the illusion of clearance.

Gotta pay to play depending on how low you want to go, how low you think the car should be.

My craving went from springs for a mild drop, coils for a better adjustable drop, to downright "oh shit I gotta park further, I'll walk the rest" then getting VI'd etc.

Since I've gone for bags because my craving for low has gone too far while I don't want to ruin my car.

It's a long journey, so just get some basic coilovers and upgrade along the way.

YOU SINK YOU AH LOW???
Spoiler!

I'm still lower than you and I do just fine.

Sure, I scrape at certain points but whatever. It's a daily driver, not a show car.

Funny thing is that I've taken my car offroad quite a bit, including Triangle Beach and along Chipmunk Creek. No, they're not massive 4x4 routes, but you'd be surprised at how far a lowered car can actually go if you put your mind to it.

Ok, maybe my reply was a bit harsh, but c'mon.. You've seen hundreds of dumped cars in Van. You're on RS. You know RS enjoys their moar low cars. You ask RS if it's a good idea. You know what you're going to read.

Obviously lowering your car is going to have it's negatives. For most, myself included, the positives outweigh the negatives. Just go ahead and dump it. Keep your stockies incase you think you've made a mistake.

Roads are bumpy? Really? In that case, don't cheap out and buy something with adjustable dampers and whatnot. Don't buy shitty OBX/GroundControl/MeganRacing/etc crap. I don't have a bodykit or aftermarket exhaust on my car and I still scrape where ever I go, but the ride is actually pretty comfortable. If I want to go take it to a track or if I know I'm going for a twisty drive, I can adjust the suspension to stiffen it up. Nice and simple.
