as an experiment, when I updated to GM.. I tried to restore in iTunes and it would not let me...even if I pulled out my sim... great new security feature finally - you need your OWN iTunes password to restore the phone. Thieves are screwed!
minor rants:
-why no unlock sound when you enter your unlock code at lock screen?

I have to say though I've never been a huge apple fan but ios 7 looks pretty nice

"GoPro" itself is a niche, because of its features. Phones can replicate some, but not the most important - durability super and wide angle lens (although I guess there are attachments you can use, or maybe someone will come out with a niche camera with a wide angle lens)
The 'cheap handheld camera' was popular for a while but was quickly replaced once phone video got decent. Even the S4 is waterproof now, and can do video and photos underwater.. but I still think it's crazy to take that kind of video with an expensive phone that isn't purposefully built for that kind of thing.

Too bad Apple lost a great visionary as Jobs. And Cook seems to only follow numbers.
IMHO, they should hire some really great minds like Elon Musk to lead the company. | Jobs was NOT a visionary, he was a brilliantly calculated business man (iphone3 -> 3gs, iphone4 -> 4s; new phones are marginally better, old phones become the "value" model, complete and ruthless product production efficiency). Cook is just good as him (iphone5 -> iphone5s, but wait, instead of making the iphone5 the value model, make the 5c, so it's cheaper to produce)
The only difference, is that Cook doesn't make as much of a grand effort as Jobs did to make people feel like every product is the second coming of Jesus.
/rant
full disclosure, I'm picking up a 5c, apple products are great, but in no way are they innovative, theyre the same as every other product out there, just wrapped out better (personal taste)

He is a visionary businessman and his goal was to leave behind his golden legacy that his company is above all and will be above all both in price and quality in phones or whatelse.
When I sell iPhones, I always tell my customers that Apple has "premium products" at a "premium price" provided with "premium service". Hence why you can break your iphone a bit like I did in the past with my iPhone 4 where the unlock button is a little bit sticky, yet functional and they told me to come back at a later time to get a new 4 at no extra cost. Not a refurbished one either because I checked. So with this premium service and phone with every new release people have a peace of mind that they are literally buying gold in their pockets.
Reason why everyone is a little bit choked about Apple is they released the 5C which is not what Jobs had in mind. However, this is a move by Cook which meant that they need to shift their target market and corporate values a bit because they are losing their market share in phones. I wouldn't say this move was bad either because its really subjective and controversial. You can literally argue both sides.
I would say IMO let it play out for now and see how it goes and don't speculate anything Apple has done is "stupid" or "dumb" or even "best move they ever made". See how it all works out..

Agreed. Some people don't seem to understand that Jobs was Apple, he was the brand. I definitely think he was a visionary in terms of his company and technology, just my opinion. Without Jobs, Apple seems to be losing it's way a bit. While Cook may be a great businessman, he isn't Steve Jobs. Jobs was a crazy dude, with an insane eye for detail and was obsessive with his products. Cook isn't that guy.
I think the 5S is good for what it's supposed to be. As things have always gone, Apple releases a new flagship phone every 2 years since the 4. The 5C is cool and will definitely have consumers buying in - as some have said, I just wish it was a little cheaper.
I'm on iOS 7 GM on my iPhone 4 and I really love it. I feel like I'm falling in love with my phone again, it feels like a new experience. Little things about the user experience just flow a lot better and I can really appreciate that. For anyone hesitant about updating to iOS 7 on their 4, it works just as fast as 6 did for me. Missing some features, obviously, but it's still sweet.

When Steve was alive:
He's no visionary nor is he innovative. He takes credit for all the hard work of the Apple engineers and designers. Apple would still succeed without him.
When Steve Jobs is gone:
Apple is doomed. Steve was responsible for all the great ideas and now that he's gone there's nobody left to come up with the 'next big thing'.
On another note. Samsung has announced that they will also have 64bit processors in their phones sometime in the future. Translated: "When ARM finishes their 64 bit design then we'll use it, you know, since we don't actually design our processors and just duplicate ARMs designs". Posted via RS Mobile |

When Steve was alive:
He's a genius visionary, and the driving force behind the most successful company in history.
When Steve Jobs is gone:
Apple is fine. Steve was more of a figurehead than anything; it is all due to the hard work of Apple's designers that will keep the company successful.
See it goes both ways, depending on who you're talking to
As for Samsung using a base ARM design, which consumer gives a flying fuck? That's right, zero of them.

Or pay a little more to get a S4 or HTC?
Iphone 5c needs to be at least 35% cheaper then what apple is asking in order to take on the low to mid range cell phones.

VANCOUVER — Canadians can expect to pay from $30 to $70 more than their American neighbours for one of Apple’s newly announced iPhones.
While Canada’s wireless carriers haven’t yet announced pricing for the new iPhone 5C or the iPhone 5S for customers who buy the phones on a two-year contract — the maximum period now offered in Canada — industry sources say Apple’s price for Canadian carriers is higher than in the United States.
So when the new iPhones are available for pre-order Sept. 13, and go on sale Sept. 20, consumers can expect to pay more, despite a Canadian dollar that is close to on par with the U.S. dollar.
When Apple unveiled the new lower-priced iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S, the replacement for its flagship iPhone 5, it listed two-year contract pricing starting at $99 US for a 16 gigabyte 5C and $199 for a 32GB 5C. The 5S with a two-year contract starts at $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB.
Unless Apple makes a last-minute change, consumers here can expect to pay a $30 premium for each of those phones, which industry insiders say is dictated by the higher price carriers here are paying for the phones. That would put the so-called “sub-$100” iPhone 5C at $129 for Canadians if they buy it with a two-year contract.
Canadians will also pay more for an unlocked iPhone 5C or 5s from Apple.
The lowest-priced unlocked iPhone 5C, a 16GB model, is listed in Apple’s Canadian online store at $649 Cdn while the same phone will sell for $599 US in the U.S. online store. The price gap widens for the 5S, which starts at $719 for the 16GB model, compared to $649 US.
“It wouldn’t surprise me at all,” Eamon Hoey, a management consultant to the telecom sector, said of the anticipated price difference. “From a distribution perspective the Canadian market is very small when it comes to iPhones, and to get your discounts you really need millions of phones.
“They (Canadian carriers) are just not getting the discounts they would if they were buying gazillions of phones like Verizon, or any one of the carriers in the United States.
“There will be a differential here.”
Despite the price difference on the new phones, Apple’s pricing for an unlocked iPhone 4S is the same $450 both in Canada and the US. The iPhone 4S is still offered for sale, although the iPhone 5 has been discontinued and is no longer listed in Apple’s US or Canadian online stores.
Apple didn’t respond to telephone or email messages by the deadline for this story. It is expected the company and Canada’s wireless carriers will release the new iPhones’ contract pricing today or Friday. Apple doesn’t allow its resellers and wireless carriers to release pricing details ahead of the official announcement.

Why anyone would get a iPhone 5C for $650 over a Galaxy S4/HTC One is beyond me.
Like I said before, iPhone 5C will flop at its on and off-contract pricing. There's simply way better options out there.

Part of me feels they made the price of the 5C so people will buy the 5S. Probably wrong though.

Its only $900 HKD difference here in HK for the 5C and 5S, So I don't see a reason why not to go for the 5s with better camera, faster processor and fingerprint scanner.
my gf wants a 5c just because it comes in pink. I'm just gonna buy a 5c for her and switch her 5 for myself to use as the HK phone and use the 5s for China to take advantage of the China Mobile LTE network.

The next "retina" display is a breakthrough in batter tech.
We need better battery tech, like fuel cells or something where they last a week or something.
There are probably many many engineers working on this problem right now, as the person/company who could solve it would become insanely rich.

Like I keep saying, users don't really need 'innovation' anymore, things like Siri and thumbprint readers are relatively useless. Even 64 bit is useless for most, until the vast majority of people have it.
What people want are a bigger screen and better battery life. This launch failed on both, which I think is why a lot of people are reacting so negatively.

Processors are the engines that make our devices run. And right now in the ARM world Apple is king and have achieved a world's first. Apple building a 64 bit mobile processor is the equivalent of Ford coming up with the first engine with 4 valve heads or electronic fuel injection and pissing off all the Chevy fans.
And as a Ford fan I enjoy reminding the Chevy guys how far behind their "engines" are and the fact they don't even have the expertise to design their own.

The only thing you're using it for is to put down Samsung... To the consumer, this stuff is completely irrelevant. All they care about is something that does what they want. If they get that through an incredible in-house design, or an OEM ARM part, it doesn't matter.
If you want to jerk off to Apple having a better CPU, that's fine.. They DO have it, but it is useless to the people who use the phones.
Same goes for the Ford/Chevy analogy.. it's a good example of fanboyism that is actually pretty useless in the end. Wow Ford has a 'better' engine. What does that mean when you buy a Ford? Nothing, if you prefer other things on a Chevy. Both will get you where you want to go in the end.
One thing I don't think the car fanboys don't do is brag about sales figures.. like who the fuck cares? Wow congrats, the phone you bought is from a company that made a lot of shareholders really rich. Does that make the phone better for you?
