Massey Tunnel 'etiquette' OK... I think most of us use this tunnel on our commutes and what not... here's my question. 1. no sunglasses - yah ok no problem 2. lights on - how many of you put your lights on? 3. no passing on solid white line (it's illegal!) - but wow, I see it so many times everyday... especially because of that terrible steveston exit that creeps up fast after exiting north bound. once the solid white line ends, you have what... a matter of 5-10 car lengths to switch over? - not to mention in the mornings when the entrance gets bunched up and everyone trying to get to the outer lane (non counterflow). if everyone played by the rules of the 'white line'... that tunnel would never work. http://drivinginstructorblog.com/wp-...es-600x398.jpg |
I'm sorry, was there a question in there? Also, lol at "most of us use this on our commute" |

question is... or was... when you're driving the tunnel.. do u abide by the solid white lines? from start to finish. |
^yes |
i thought this was gunna be something about "no open wastegates through the tunnel" kinda threads.. in which case i would reply with a :lawl: but its not :okay: |
Yes I abide by the solid line. Just like how I stop at red lights and slow down in school zones. Derp Posted via RS Mobile |
No, I admit to having crossed the solid line on a couple occassions so I'm not going to lie... However, a big fuck you to the bastards who roll the right lane north bound in the morning in a valiant effort to pass a whopping 3 cars only to turn on the blinker and make 2 lane changes for the counterflow lane. If you plan to use counterflow, get in the left lane ahead of time instead of making everyone stop to accommodate your ass. I never let meat heads in who think their time is more valuable than everyone else's.. |
for the most part yes. i occasionally cross the white line if for example im on the left lane goign southbound and i gotta take the exit RIGHT after the tunnel, i'll wait til just after the "tunnel" ends and switch to the right, which is still solid white. I don't do it while IN the tunnel, but like i said, i ocassionally do it just before or after, but more so after since i always stick to the left lane before i enter |
10/10 thread would read again. |

I feel bad for those that have to use that tunnel then again I was stuck on the Upper Levels of Hwy 1 for an hour this afternoon :okay: |
You forgot "no redlining in the tunnel" :fuckthatshit: |
In the rare event I use the tunnel, I'm heading to Steveston most likely, so... I use the right hand lane in the tunnel. Realistically it's never going to be more than a 45 second difference no matter which lane you use, so just use the one you need to. Also, +1 for open wastegates in the tunnel. I miss my Impreza :( |
tunnel? WOOT time for loud car to be louder!!! |
Had to use the tunnel for 3 months 2 summers ago. Solution : Got a different job. |
THOSE OF YOU WHO SUGGEST RELINING IN THE TUNNEL I SUGGEST YOU TRY GOING FAST AT 8AM M-F FROM RICHMOND TO DELTA. OR 4PM-5:30PM FROM DELTA TO RICHMOND YES I NEED TO SCREAM BECAUSE I STILL HAVENT SEEN MY THERAPIST YET |

Thought this thread was going to be about reving and open wastegates through the tunnel. Bigger FAIL thread than what I originally thought. |
anyways.... I guess it isn't much more different than at the lions gate when you have to merge onto 1 lane from 4. I mean.. if the whole 'white line' crossing was enforced.. holy crap, the cops would have a field day ticketing. |
IT'S NOT ONE LANE FROM 4. IT'S 2+2+3+2HOV into ONE GIANT FUCKING LANE WITH ASSHOLES DIVING AND OUT OF OF THE SHOULDER AND HOV LANES TO GET AHEAD. FUCK HERE I TOOK THIS VIDEO ON MY LAST WEEK OF WORK |
floating lego blocks.. :suspicious: |

And to answer the question OP posted. Whenever I happen to pass through the Massey tunnel, I don't usually need to take the first exit right after the tunnel, so I pick a lane and stay in it throughout the tunnel. However, I have seen many people cross the solid white line in the middle of the tunnel and blow right through in the left lane. |
BUT... re morning OR afternoon rush hour... pick your poison: Massey Tunnel vs Alex Fraser Bridge. BOTH can be chaotic...yet the TUNNEL tends to flow faster. |
