Computer gurus needed PLEASE Any idea what would be causing my computer to do this? Ill be in the middle of doing something and it shuts down It's an HP a6614f desktop http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...psd2d8efe4.jpg Posted via RS Mobile |
Does it only happen when you are doing stuff on the computer, like playing games or watching porn? If you've had the computer for a while, and haven't cleaned out the dust, then it could be overheating. |
try to update all your HP drivers for the motherboard.. chipset, bios, etc... |
Blue screen of death!! Last time I had it I probably format it or I got myself new computer... It was a big issue for me when I had that screen.. |
that particular blue screen has the error STOP code of 101 which means the cpu isn't getting enough juice or some other hardware instability. (maybe an overclock or power supply slowly dieing?) I'll assume this is happening frequently and isn't a once time problem. There are multiple ways you could address the problem assuming you don't have any faulty parts. Option #1. Enter BIOS (spam Del or Esc or F2 at power on for HP) and reset all settings to default. save and restart Option #2. Get into Desktop > (Windows + R) to get the Run prompt open and type in sfc /scannow Option #3. Complete reformat to factory defaults. of course, this would mean you will need to back up your files onto a separate storage device. Spam F9 on power up and it would get you to the recovery screen for an HP. These are just the things I can think of that you can do with the built in tools on your computer. more advanced diagnostic tools are out there for free download if these options don't work or you aren't comfortable performing. |
It seems to be happening more so when I have a few things on the go. Music, browsing the web ect. I'll try a system restore and see if it continues. |
my computer did this when the hard drive shit the bed.. i then did a burnout in a ram 1500 and had a friend throw my laptop under the tire! it didnt fix it! but was entertaining! |
Most likely a corrupt or dead hard drive. If you system cant detect the hard drive in bios then its dead. |
I ran the scan, CPU, memory, and HD all passed. Power supply dying? |
OP I think you need a ram 1500, ask snails he might be able to loan you one |
If I can fix it on the cheap I'd like too.. The computer is only used for internet browsing. |
If you're running windows vista, that might be why (I had a lot of BSOD issues w/ vista) it is in your favor to check your harddrive's health and see if it all checks out if it does, go ahead and reinstall windows. That might fix your problem How to See if Your Hard Drive is Dying |
Sounds like the CPU is overheating since you mentioned it tends to happen when you are multi-tasking. How does the inside of the tower look? I would take out the heatsink/fan and clean out all the crap if there's a nice layer dust on it. I'd also reapply thermal paste on the IHS. I would do this first before doing a complete system restore. |
Inside is completely clean, and I tired running with the side panel off, and a fan blowing in. |
download this software. Blue screen of death (STOP error) information in dump files. it will tell you what is the issue to an extent and then you can google the rest |
Ran than, every crash comes back to "caused by driver: hal.dll" |
lol so I guess you didnt try to update all the drivers for your motherboard like I suggested |
you running windows vista? |

Your first problem is vista. |

most likely, you would be looking for are BIOS, chipset, sound, video, lan/wifi drivers.. install then reboot and see if you still get the BSOD... if not, your set... |
Well it was getting to the point where Windows would basically load and then shit right down, even in safe mode. I bought this computer used, and the tool who install windows didnt install the recovery, therefor F11 at start doesnt work ECT. I previously had a HP Mediacenter PC M8000 that died on me. I pulled the hard drive from it, plugged it into this just to see what would happen. Going on 4hrs, and I basically have my old computer back along with all my files. Nothing has happened thus far, which is leading me to believe that it was software related.. |
download the files on another computer and put it on a flash drive? |
