opinions please

Hello everyone

I have been a lurker for a long time, but fairly a newer member here... i was hoping to get some of your opinions on this...

I just sold my skyline and am looking to get something different... i have my eye on a s14 kouki, 1997, 5 speed from factory, cream leather interior... No cracks in the leather, tien coilovers, GTR 33 rims, stock engine (KA24DE), no mods, all stock exhaust, showed me the cams and have next to no wear on them. not a single spot of rust, no rush in wheelwell, none in the spare wheel area. seriously the cleanest car i have ever seen...

this is her:

Now my questions is this... he is asking $8500... is that to high? about right? should i counter with say 8000 or 8200? (side note, he was asking 9500, and i offered $8000 and he came back at me with 8500)

so that all... just looking for other opinions in regards to the price for what i am getting

Don't know much in terms of your pricing question, but she looks to be a very nice example.

That's not how negotiation works.

First, don't be cheap..we're talking 1 or 2 hundred off an 8k car. He knows you're full of shit, we know you're full of shit and you know it too. That shit is, you aren't going to walk over $200.

Next, when he says "9500" and you say "8000" and he says "8500" you sound like an ass if you say "8000" again like you have a hearing impediment.

It's a nice car, its got the right condition and options-he won't have a hard time shifting it. You can ask 8300...but its up to him if he wants to make 200 less. He knows you'll pay 8500.

It's a nice car! Buy the thing, drive the fuck out of it and don't worry about $200.

On paper, no, that car at 200k is not worth 8500 for a 1997 car...but we all know that the statistics don't make the value of that car.

It's pricey. I just did a search for 1997 cars between 8k and 9k...it had a short list. A sweet Jag if anyone wants to play british

It's a nice, unmolested car. I would think you are on the high side for that car. You aren't getting a deal, but its not rape territory. On the flip side, I don't see them going for much less than 8.

Helpful post? no. I recognize that

There are none for sale in Van's CL, and 1 at 15k on ebay.

Buy it.

A car is only worth what someone will pay for it. Does some internet site (ie blackbook etc) give a rough estimate of a good price? Sure. Does it take into consideration the most important fact (local market)? No. Would i pay 8500 for that car, subject to a mechanical inspection? Probably.

The car looks reasonably well taken care of and 8.5 seems fair for a clean/non-drift slut kouki
I feel like if the car was posted for 10.5 and he responded with 9 you wouldn't hesitate to put up 8.5 for it. pricing is kinda arbitrary like that on revscene, It's less about what's a fair price and more about feeling like you got a good deal/good negotiation.

You post something for 150 people will offer you 100 and settle at 125.
You post the same thing for 200 people will offer you 125 and settle at 150.
Obviously not a universal thing, wouldn't be the case with iphones etc. where people generally know what the market price is.

Edit: Keep in mind there'll always be some idiot telling you that you paid too much for it regardless of what amount you paid. "oh you paid 4k for THAT?!" because in some retarded way making you feel small makes them feel better about themselves.

Ahaha this is Grim's Kouki, isn't it? Description matches. I'd pay 8500 for that, super clean car and it sounds maintained well too.

Maintenance and quality costs a fucking premium. It takes nothing to add up to a few k in repairs when we are talking about a 15 year old sports car. If the car is in great shape, its worth TONS more than something thats in ok shape if you plan on keeping it and enjoying it.
