GT350?

Timpo 07-15-2014 10:15 PM

ok so is GT350 supposed to be a completely different than GT500?

like Camaro Z28 is for track, ZL1 is for cruising?

or GT350 just a downgraded poor man's GT500?

thumper 07-15-2014 10:29 PM

if the camaro had to be categorized:

ss = cruiser
z/28 = track car
zl-1 = dragstrip

the gt350 will sit between the gt and the gt500. because of the prototypes running around, there is still rumor of a 2.3L ecoboost turbo i-4 SVO (the same engine in the upcoming focus RS) that will slot under the gt, which would appeal the european markets.

well I;m just wondering if GT350 will go faster around the corner and get a faster lap time around on the track than the GT500 just like ZL1 and Z28.

thumper 07-16-2014 05:08 AM

the gt350 is said to be the indirect successor to the boss 302 in the model lineup, and will compete with the z/28, but i do not know whether it will be as single-minded/hardcore as the z/28. the gt500 was more about going fast in a straight line and was never really much for handling because of the high CG caused by the supercharger and the front end weight bias. the gt350 is still normally aspriated.

those are actually cobra Rs which are even more awesome, i think ford really did a disservice and disrespect to SVT by going after baby boomers and renaming their high performance mustangs shelby gt500s instead of continuing their SVT Cobra branding which had a lot more relevance to people in my generation.

between the cobra, cobra Rs, lightnings and even the focus and the contour SVT had a pretty good rep until they dropped the branding

thumper 07-17-2014 06:09 AM

the more i google articles about the gt350, the more i am seeing "svt cobra" mentioned at the same time in some of them. without anything definite, it just might be called the cobra (especially with that grille on the test car... fangs).

thumper 07-17-2014 11:43 AM

second prototype in this video. not sure what it is... obviously does not sound the same, and it dosen't seem as fast or handles like the first one? it has no front lip, but it does have canards

"Official" power numbers are out.

Quote:

Road & Track has Ford's official stats on the 2015 'Stang, and they say the 5.0-liter V8-powered Mustang GT has 435 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. That's a boost of 15 horses and 10 torques from the old car, which has the same "Coyote" V8 engine.

And speaking of "boost," the 2.3-liter turbo four Mustang EcoBoost is revealed to have 310 horsepower and a whopping 320 pound-feet of torque. Impressive numbers for sure.

At the bottom of the Mustang ladder is the base V6 engine, now actually down on power slightly to 300 horsepower from the old car. It still has 280 pound-feet of torque.

Potent numbers all around. We'll update this if we get more Mustang details today.
2015 Ford Mustang: 435 Horsepower For The V8, 310 For The EcoBoost

As for the Shelby name, I think they'll drop it due to his passing. Wouldn't be a great image to keep making money off his name, and they'd probably need to pay royalties to his estate/heirs?

Aftermarket companies seem to be testing the water already with various mod possibilities:

Please come with a proper e-brake handle. (looking at you Chevrolet..)

"Eleanor" is so much prettier than this Americanized Aston.

thumper 07-18-2014 07:31 AM

i've never special-ordrered a new car before so i do not know how other manufacturers do it but i thought this was neat... on one of the mustang message boards this is what you see when you track your order online:

Ford Mustang GT350 to be unveiled on September 19 at Circuit of the Americas On sale in 2015 as a 2016MY

Quote:

The Ford Mustang GT350 is going to be introduced at Circuit of the Americas on September 19 during the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge in Austin, Texas.
During the recent 2014 Indianapolis Motor Speedway race broadcast the announcers said the GT350 will go on sale next year but will be shown on the race track next month. It can only mean the vehicle will be unveiled on September 19 in Austin, Texas at the Circuit of the Americas during the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.
The Mustang GT350 is still in development so it's not known at this moment whether Ford will reveal the entire car or will decide to bring a camouflaged prototype. Whatever it will be, under the hood we expect to find a more potent version of the V8 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated engine with considerably more than the 435 bhp & 541 Nm available in the Mustang GT.
It will go on sale as a 2016 model year and will come at a considerable premium over the 32,295 USD Mustang GT. Besides packing more punch, the GT350 will also be distinguished by a very aggressive body along with a stiffer sports suspension, larger wheels, rear diffuser, carbon ceramic brakes, quad exhaust setup and other mechanical tweaks.

Never been a huge fan of Mustangs but the 2015 model looks so good.

PiuYi 08-13-2014 09:21 PM

not a fan of these cars with no bumpers and high trunk/hoods.... lowers visibility and makes it look like a boat

That is the luxury aesthetic

When we think of classy, sporty, economy, we can all clearly envision the same culturally acceptable standard look for each

Car manufacturers know how important we value status and it's reflected in a "premium" appearance

The minivan didn't die because vans are lame, they died because nobody figured out how to make it look high-status

The high hoods are because of European pedestrian safety guidelines. I hate them too but they're here to stay
