The people who talk the most shit about Surrey generally are the ones who've never even been there. They hear stories and tell them like they are their own while living in their parents house in Richmond or Burnaby.

I had a argument once with claimed they lived in Richmond when really, they were in Queensborough area.

Hmm.. correct me if I'm wrong.. but I always thought that the Queensborough/Annacis Island/Starlight Casino area had ridiculous boundaries drawn.. where anything up to the casino was still Richmond, past it would be part of New West, and beyond that onto Annacis was Delta? So basically you'd be able to drive through all 3 cities in a matter of 5-10 mins lol!

So... it might not be the Richmond that we all think of when people say they live in Richmond.. but from where the boundaries are drawn.. it's still called Richmond?

dinosaur 11-04-2013 02:13 PM

I never knew people referred to Queensborough as Richmond....your peeps are cray cray.

I like Surrey. Personally yeah if I had a reason to sure I'd live in Van or whatever. But it makes the most sense to stay here. My family is here, friends, school (kinda... it's close in Ladner) and I live in a nice neighborhood. No reason to leave and it's affordable.

Don't get me wrong theres areas in Surrey I would never live in and rarely visit for good reason.

Rootin' Tootin' Newton, North Surrey, Whalley/Surrey Central, All of King George and Scott Road etc. I spend my time in Fleetwood/South Surrey/WR. The "goodish" areas of Surrey and really enjoy it. I'm likely moving into WR/S.Surrey area in January. Has everything I need and close to a nice beach and the freeway into Richmond/ladner.

A record number of homicides in 2013 for the city of Surrey earns this thread bump.

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Homicide investigators say the 53-year-old has died.

She was found unconscious in the arena’s parking lot on Sunday night.

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Julie Paskall of Surrey; she was either picking up or dropping off her son, who was refereeing a game, at the time of the attack.

IHIT says it was an unprovoked attack and the motive appears to be robbery.

No arrests have been made and police still want to talk to witnesses.

This is Surrey’s 25th homicide of 2013.
I have worked in Surrey, I have friends who have grown up in Surrey and friends who are current members of the Surrey RCMP. They all say the same thing... Stay the hell out Surrey. This is not a safe city to raise a family.

Fail me all you want, the stats speak for themselves. :okay:

RIP to a hockey mom. Not a criminal or drug dealer. A hockey mom.

stay out of richmond or a plane could crash into you!

1 dead, 2 injured after plane crashes into building in Richmond, B.C. - British Columbia - CBC News

the problem is... Surrey's trash is also making their way into North Delta and surrounding areas... that Newton area is basically what the old Whalley Exchange used to be... the vagrants simply got pushed out and into Newton.

Who would have guessed a person from Surrey would quote an 5+ year old article as recent news. I had higher hopes but thank you for re-enforcing the bias that a fair amount of people from Surrey are un-educated peons. Not all, but a fair amount. I believe they are refered to as "Surrey-Jacks" :woot2:

I don't live in Richmond so I don't know why Surrey Jacks keep posting articles from that city and none from the rest of Metro Vancouver. Must be that education thing I was talking about... Hectic. :lol

Do any of them describe a city in Metro Vancouver with a homicide rate greater than 25 in the past 5 years? :considered:

No but i can find a number of stories comparing Vancouver houses to crack shacks. It's all about trade offs.

The sad thing is that a hockey mom was killed for a purse which probably had nothing in it (coming from Surrey).

Gululu 12-31-2013 04:32 PM

even criminals in richmond are smarter than the ones in surrey. they are more interested in money laundering or loan sharking or importing illegal goods than harming random innocent ppl off the streets. they blend into the population well and basically are harmless to others.

Really? Dad owns a condo in Richmond that is rented. One day the cops knock on the door. The tenant thinks he is spider man. Hangs off the balcony lets go thinking he can grab the next one below working his way down. Ends up missing and going splat on the ground. Guy didn't seem that smart to me.

Fraser Heights, Morgan Creek, etc > 99% of where the people in this thread live.

Its like when you bring up Vancouver to haters and they point out East Hastings.

asahai69 12-31-2013 04:55 PM

This type of shit can happen anywhere. But come on, once you hear a story like the hockey mom or some kid getting beat up at a skytrain station, most people instantly think of Surrey. Which is unfortunate because Surrey has some really nice areas.

Hopefully these scumbags doing this shit will be priced out and forced to move out to Chilliwack or something.

JesseBlue 12-31-2013 05:14 PM

I'm not sure why we tolerate these types of threads/post...no better than a racist/prejudiced scumbag
