While clicking on links from previous post, I found dome stuff Charles in Charge would find interesting. Winter and summer olympics in the same year and hosted by the same country.

Sorry but all I could imagine, once the sled stopped, was one of them saying,

"Hey, Sanka... you dead?"

Well, looks like that's a wrap for Sochi 2014. Quite a bounceback for Canada over the past few days.

I like that Russia won the overall and golds. I remember what it was like here...I was jacked for the whole two weeks so it's cool that Russia has something to celebrate after losing in hockey.

More importantly, we won both hockey golds. :D

I decided to see how each country ranks medal standings, whether it's in gold medals, or total medals:

Inb4 USA does the rankings by bronze medals.

Well a win for both Men's and Women's hockey, and we have more golds than the USA. I'd consider this Olympics a decent success. We had a lot of choking and a heck of a lot of silvers and 4th place finishes but it was overall pretty good.

Sort of like when Donovan Bailey won the 100M in Atlanta. Then some light bulb at NBC took Donovan's time, doubled it, and found it was slower than Michael Johnson's 200M time. Their conclusion was that Johnson should be billed as the "World's Fastest Man". This despite that at previous Olympics it's always been the 100M winner that gets this unofficial title.

4 measley hours?....after winning gold in men's hockey?...on the last day????

Yeah, that cost figure was inflated for sure.

Someone should've been on standby to lite that mofo when the game ended. Guaranteed, it would've been packed.

BTW, who carried the flag at the closing ceremonies?

THIS! Really happy to see the hosting city/country make those two achievements, especially after being shut out of a medal in hockey. Mens and womens hockey and curling were big ones for Canada so it was great to see us take all 4 golds. Super stoked for McMorris taking bronze. That dudes awesome! Snowboard cross was probably the most exciting event with all the speed and crashes. All in all I had a great time watching and following all of the events.

fliptuner 02-23-2014 12:34 PM

I would've preferred, in this order:

1. Jennifer Jones for her complete domination of the curling tournament

2. Marie-Philip Poulin for the most epic in win all the games

3. Happy Gilmore Junio for giving up his spot on the team for his teammate, who he felt had a better chance of getting a medal - representing true sacrifice and sportsmanship, for the benefit of his team

Only reason I don't (read: can't) suggest anyone from mens hockey, is cause it was a total team effort and to choose 1 player to carry the flag, would be unjust.

But seriously, props to the choreographers for owning the gaffe and making it part of the show, I think Russia gains a lotta respect for not trying to gloss it over. It happened, the whole world saw it, okay, ha ha, let's get a chuckle and move on.

Props to all the athletes.
Props to Russia for getting it done and keeping everyone safe.
Big props to all the companies that sponsored our athletes.
