The Return of Datsun Quote:
http://reports.nissan-global.com/EN/?p=12000#! Looks like Datsun is set to be Nissan's "Off-Brand" in emerging markets. Whats next? The return of Plymouth? Will we see a 2018 Mercury Zephyr grace the streets of Tajikistan? |
Looks like an Aveo from the front and a Yaris from the rear. Mission accomplished Nissan. |
Here I thought we could see some cool Datsun cars like the wonder years Please bring something that channels a 510! I want to build a 510 soo bad! |

Lol the return of Datsun a la Ghosn will have purists up in arms Posted via RS Mobile |
At $6700, I'm assuming that it's pretty bare bones ... Low price due to lack of safety requirements in India? |
I'd expect the relative failure of the Tata Nano, Nissan is using their manufacturing punch to try to fill the market that Tata couldn't. But they don't want to put a potential dog on the Nissan brand so they're testing the waters with a defunct label from years gone by. In fact, the only reason this is making news is because of the revival of the Datsun brand. |
Came in this thread expecting something like this.. http://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/...ont_resize.jpg But http://s2.quickmeme.com/img/63/63adf...e07b1f8b7f.jpg |
Im disappointed... :( |
shame on them for using that brand name on cars like that. The original Datsuns that came out had goods / mechanical technology in them that rivaled or bettered the more expensive competitors but yet at a super affordable price in a tough as nails reliable package. their trucks, their 510's, fairlady roadsters, and of course the Z. all were great stuff for the masses of their time! |
On a business viewpoint, it makes sense to sell a low-cost car in India to meet that market's needs. In fact, at $6,700, it's actually a medium priced car in India. See here: Hyundai Car Prices in India, New Hyundai Car Prices 2013, Make Car Price List 1 lakh = 100,000 Rupees. The Datsun brand was phased out in 1986, so many NEW car buyers are not familiar with or know about Datsun. For direct foreign investment, a foreign company must partner with a domestic company via a joint-venture. In this case, Nissan joined with Mahindra & Mahindra Limited in India, so it is almost certain that car parts will be shared among Datsun new cars and other Indian made car brands... to reduce costs of course. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_India_Private_Limited All in all, perhaps not to dilute or "endanger" the Nissan brand, Mr. Ghosn decided to restart Datsun in India instead of devaluing the Nissan brand by selling low-cost Nissan cars in India (currently Nissan sells the regular Nissan model line in India at much higher prices). It will be interesting to see what happens... and if the Datsun brand will be revived in North America. |
