We got a pretty good deal on both of them, so there isn't a very big difference in terms of price.

The Mercedes is 2k more expensive, but it has lower financing rates to make up for it.
The BMW has free maintenance for 1.5 year, the Mercedes doesn't have free maintenance.
The BMW has light leather interior, the Mercedes has black leather interior.
The BMW is gas, the Mercedes is Diesel.

If you guys had to pick, which one would you go for? Why?
Sorry, but shouldn't you be asking your parents
1) Which one looks better to them?
2) Which one handles better / drives better?
3) Are they fully comfortable of driving either one / their blind spots / etc..
4) Which one is easier to park with at their ease level?

It's your parent's thats buying + driving this car. As you said the price point is nearly identical already. It all comes down to their personal preference. Do THEY prefer the light leather interior or black?

You guys talk about these modern European cars like they're supposed to run like Civics and Corollas.

Worry free. Are you actually serious? You have to take into account that shit does happen with these cars. Consider and factor in the time and emotional cost (re: headaches) when something goes wrong with these cars and surely, something will. Yeah, sure, take the car in to the dealership and let them worry about it but what are you going to do if you have to bring it back multiple times for the same thing within a 3 month time span?

Worry free. Yeah, and money grows on trees too.

The only reason I'm asking around is because we can't decide. We love both cars, each has its own pros and cons. Figured I'd get the opinion of the general public from past experience, preferences, etc. If we can't decide by tomorrow morning, we are actually just gonna flip a coin.

In my opinion BMW's are for people that enjoy driving cars that are sporty, responsive and with a good racing pedigree whereas the typical Mercedes owner is more interested in comfort, luxury and smoothness. I don't believe that one is necessarily better than the other as in my view they both cater to slightly different market segments. For us we went with the Mercedes as the wifey mainly drives it and she prefers a smoother ride.

Get a extended warranty if you go with the X5. You can also have the extended warranty added to your monthly payment if you're financing. But be warned, there is a deductible you have to pay for each repair under the extended warranty.

I would say that the bluetec engine is more city friendly. The xDrive35i and xDrive48i is a gas guzzler. The X5 has maintenance included, which if you don't have and go to dealer for services, prefer to get wrecked.

But these cars are not going to be worry-free, things will go wrong.

Also, I know it's difficult, but downsides to these cars only become apparent when you have owned them for at least a month. A test drive tells very little about the vehicle. One thing I can say is that the turning circle on the X5 is definitely one of the biggest I've seen, not too sure about the newer ML's.

Its a $50 deductible, shouldn't be driving a bmw if you can't afford that

Personally I wouldn't go with the BMW because everyone I know who owns one brings the car in to get fixed way too much.

I'd probably go with the X5, but then again I like BMWs.

It all comes down to personal preference, honestly.

for bmw x5, the handling is really good. i could keep up with my friend's audi s5 in the twisties. a bit rough riding though. i have 2 friends that have 3 series and both with engine problems. just a few hours ago, my friend's 335i had to be towed away from his own home to get it fixed. he constantly goes to auto west bmw to get it fixed.

look at these comparisons on caranddriver.
Acura MDX vs. Audi Q7, BMW X5, Land Rover LR4, Lexus GX460 - Comparison Test - Car and Driver
2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit EcoDiesel 4X4 vs. 2013 Volkswagen Touareg TDI, 2013 Mercedes-Benz ML350 BlueTec 4MATIC, 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel, 2013 BMW X5 xDrive35d Comparison Tests - Page 2 - Car and Driver
BMW X5 vs. Acura MDX, Cadillac SRX, M-B ML350, Lexus GX470, Volvo XC90, VW Touareg, Land Rover LR3 - Comparison Tests

i also driven japanese suv like rx350 and mdx if you consider. they are both comfortable. sorry, don't know a thing about m-class.

xxsupa, i like your videos on youtube. lol. heres an example everyone,

Thanks for the info everyone! I think this thread can be closed now.

My mom ended up choosing the BMW X5.

However, the day she confirmed the purchase and paid the deposit, my car gets hit by a BMW... Dunno if the car gods are trying to tell us something...

It's very unlikely, but I do hope that they write it off. Even though this is my first accident, this car's been through way too much. After this gets fixed, the passenger side will be the only side that haven't been replaced.

I was about to say "why stop at a bus stop after an accident?!"
Good thing the girl next to you reminded you to pull up ahead of the bus stop lol.

OMG... what is going on with your car?!? jinxed? cursed???

i remember someone posting here in the last 1-2 months about his CPO X5 breaking down and getting not so great service from BMW... i don't know if you and your parents need that sort of grief, especially considering the kind of vehicular drama you all have had so far with that chrysler

i may get flamed for saying this, but i would have stopped right after impact and gotten out. i've seen too many crash videos online where the injured party moves to the side of the road and the other driver does a runner.

Yesterday, my mom asked me if she should buy Tire repair/replacement warranty from BMW, in case she gets a flat.

This morning, I wake up to find that there's a nail stuck in my rear tire, and my tire's almost flat.

What is this luck -_-

It's a sign from the autogods that you should've bought a benz instead of a bmw

Don't you get new tires with the car? If they are RFT, then buy the package; otherwise patch that bish up.
My X3 has been on the donut for 2months already.
