Audi Sport Quattro Laser Light Concept at Consumer Electronics Show.

Audi is bringing new laser headlights to its Sport Quattro concept car for this year's Consumer Electronics Show.

Audi Sport Quattro Laser Light Concept: Maintaining Audi?s Lighting Leadership ? News ? Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

-from the article:

Specs: 700-hp hybrid powertrain. twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 mated to an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels. At the rear there’s a torque-vectoring sport differential, and the V-8 gets an engine stop-start system and cylinder deactivation. Thanks to a 14.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Sport Quattro concept can whir around for up to 31 miles on electrons alone, while at the other end of the spectrum, it can do 190 mph and hit 62 mph (100 km) in 3.7.

Then there was the gauntlet thrown down by BMW a few years back, in which that other German company decided it was going to leapfrog LEDs and work on laser headlights. We know what you’re thinking at this point: oh, snap! Well, Audi’s not taking BMW’s threat lying down, and is bringing a laser-headlight-equipped version of its Sport Quattro concept to the 2014 Consumer Electronics show to prove it.

Critically, we have yet to see BMW’s laser headlights, so Audi’s technically got the Bavarians beat here. The Sport Quattro Laser Light concept you see here wears four laser-lit peepers. Audi claims its headlights—which are powered by laser diodes, not just pure laser beams—boast a 1640-foot range, which is twice the distance LED high beams can throw light. The laser diodes also are about three times as bright as LED high beams, and each diode measures just a few micrometers in diameter.

Audi may put this car into production: http://blog.caranddriver.com/audi-sp...-architecture/

BMW first, the i8 supposedly has laser headlights too and that's only a year away (or less)

I don't get the point of having obscenely bright lights on vehicles which end up being mostly driven in cities with street lighting. If some people can forget to turn on their lights and drive around just fine then having lasers for headlights is retarded.

That rear end is tragically ugly.

I don't care so much for the lasers, but I like the design of the head lights.

Read the article some days ago.

The limited production sport quattro is okay looking, kinda retro, and that could have been done purposely.

Still... 700hp? And 0 to 62 in 3.7s.

A little underwhelming but it also depends on the price, and on its handling, cornering, etc.

Can't wait to actually read and see some reviews on this car.

Read the article in the second link of my original post.
Audi's CEO says that "nothing is decided yet".

The article suggests that this car will be produced based on positive customer feedback so far.

-article mentions that Audi made an earlier version of this concept, without the laser lights, for the Frankfurt auto show, last autumn.
There's two versions of this car.

I agree that the rear is the ugly. They should change the rear design.

Looking at it again it looks like a mashup of other cars. Lexus grille, Camaro/Challenger profile (with the trunk cut off), BMW headlights and a Ferrari wheel (holy mother of buttons!)
