I agree with how people will increase their speed when you signal for lane change. But if there is a decent gap between you and the car next to you, why does it matter even if the driver speed up? you signaled, then you lane changed, by the time you complete your lane change, the driver wouldn't have caught up to you unless there were barely any space and you tried to lane change, then that's your problem.
| because i dont want to get rear ended. Also, if the driver thinks that gap was small enough for him to just speed up as it is not decent enough for another car, then that means he would have to slow down again to make that gap for himself again which means that he is basically a moving wall and blocking a lane change. Him letting off the accel is a much more smoother and safer process for both.
Of course it's my problem but drivers often NEED to rely on the courtesy of others. In a situation where you are suddenly stuck in stopped traffic and you need to change lanes. You turn on the blinker and usually the car beside you will hold onto their brake to create that gap for you. He doesn't need to and its your problem that your in the wrong lane in stuck traffic but being courtesy just makes it better overall. Same concept applied in moving traffic. |
