Sense BC (increasing speed limits on BC highways)

saw this on facebook today about increasing highway speed limits in BC.

Quote:

Tomorrow (January 9, 2014, Thursday) at 5pm is a Town Hall meeting with the Ministry of Transportation at SFU Segal Centre, 500 Granville Street regarding BC's long awaited HWY SPEED LIMIT Review we need to show support for this initiative by attending in numbers.

The new Highway 17 (South Fraser Perimeter Road) opened recently. Speed limit: 80km/h!!!! Seems like they're going backwards rather than forwards. This is just frustrating and silly.

DavidNguyen 01-10-2014 11:36 AM

U usually drive 35km over the limit
Our current speeds r way to slow

Looks like HWY 1 through burnaby is going to be 90km/h after the construction is completed. They ahve already put in numerous signs they are just turned sideways.

I was hoping for 100km/h, but a 10km/h bump it better than nothing...

kkthind 01-10-2014 12:55 PM

i guess this is just another conspiracy scheme to give out ridiculous fines to people for speeding because chances are people going to travel at 120-130km/h and making the limit 90km/h now is just easier for cops to give out excessive speeding tickets more often even though highways are way safer compared to 10 years ago

just my two cents

Hondaracer 01-10-2014 12:58 PM

Dgaf what the limits are if people don't understand that the left lane is for passing, fuck by far my #1 driving pet peave, cannot fucking stand being behind someone who thinks it's fine to be in the left lane because your doing the limit or even going under! Arghhhhhhhh :@!!

We are going to put up with that regardless because many people do not know how to read the sign that says keep right except to pass or the sign that says left lane: passing travelling lane, and the right lane is travelling lane

u must forgotten speed limit WAs 90km

5 -6 yaers ago i knew before they started this project our speed limit aint gonna get raised

boy was i fucking right

90km down to 80km due to construction, and now with extra lane...guess what?

fucking 90km again

oh well, whatever speed limit is only used as a reference anyway, no one follows it

Indy 01-10-2014 01:44 PM

FUCK!

I thought I remember it was 90km/h, but I second guessed myself cause I really didn't think they put in all new signs just for the construction period.

I though they just added the construction zone sign below the existing signs and now they were putting up new signs.

What a fucking load. I can legitimately cruise that portion of the HWY at a comfortable pace of 120km/h, and it's not even like I am crazy cause I get passed every morning on my way to work going that speed.

This morning there was horrific rain at 6AM on my way to work. I was doing 100km/h and literally got passed by every single person on the road...

GG 01-10-2014 02:00 PM

no fucking shit

not a single fucking person drives 80-90km on that part of the road, whoever does is either full of shit or a fucking hypocrite .

4 lanes in seattle which aint much diff than van speed limit is 110-120km

i knew our goverment was fucked, no way they are that generous to give 100km after the bs construction

oh well not like i follow the speed limit

and than very soon we gonna have some dumb ass chipping in saying speed kills blah blah

no ignorance does

no one is suggesting raising the speed limit to 160km or 250km

however with a 4 lane nicely paved hwy and modern car techonology ...if u gonna crash doing 110-120km than it was gods will to bury u 10 feet under anyway

It was always 90km/h before construction. I do agree though, the stretch west of the bridge should be 100, the stretch east 110, and the coquihalla 120.

StylinRed 01-10-2014 03:23 PM

the only reason its 80 is because of the construction but i thought it was 100km/h before the construction whats this bs about 90 -_-

radioman 01-10-2014 03:36 PM

Everyone going 110-120 no big deal. Noticed a cruiser doing 120 the other day. *shrug*

kkthind 01-10-2014 03:41 PM

I'm curious, did anyone actually go to the meeting?

They also build a police hideout in one of the curves for speed traps...They put 80km/h on purpose!!
