LG G2 Thread

Anyone have this phone? Thoughts? Any tips/tricks?

I am loving mine so far! :fullofwin:

Looks awesome screen wise but it makes me uneasy thinking about if LG would update it within a reasonable time

Except the LG screen looks beautiful and the bezel is thin, other than that it is a Samsung-ish phone lol

Just got mine yesterday. Been using an S4 4G since last May and the G2 pretty much beats the S4 in every category. Love the quickremote and the battery life.

Mr.HappySilp 01-10-2014 08:03 PM

Sigh do you think it will work on fido if I purchase the phone for full price?

G 01-10-2014 08:34 PM

Played around and used it a little in HK, fell in love with it and got it with a new Bell plan (plan ran out on time). Got the phone after some random discounts and stuff for $170 ish.

Pretty good screen + battery life. My LTE ripped through it quite a bit, but when I turned it off, it was god like. I love the double tap open close feature! :D

Chose the G2 over the GS4 a couple months ago and loving it as well. Took no time at all to get used to the buttons being on the back, and in fact, it feels so natural that's what I go for on anyone else's phones now. QuickRemote is incredibly handy, as is the QuickMemo (draw right on the screen, then save your marked-up screenshot). MiraCast works pretty well with my Samsung SmartTV, too.

Most of the Android news sites are saying Kit Kat update should be coming to Canadian carriers in Q1; it's already been rolling out overseas, and there are some working CM builds out there as well... although honestly, I'm really liking the LG interface and LG-specific apps.

What made you guys choose this over the nexus 5?

Soundy 01-11-2014 08:06 AM

$149 on a new two-year contract with Telus, mainly... also Nexus 5 is a scaled-down G2 - smaller screen, weaker CPU, lamer battery.

I came from an Iphone 4s and was thinking of the Nexus 5. I chose the G2 because it's basically the same as the N5 but with a bigger screen, much better battery and camera, and comes with 32GB vs 16GB of the N5 for the same price on term.

It was a no brainer just looking at the specs. So far I love it.

If your into custom roms.. the support for it doesnt look good but still way better then the first LG G phone..

Good choice. The S4 is out for a while already in terms of phone technology it is consider to be out dated already (I mean S5 is going to be in April/May). I would pick up the G2 if only I can get off fido........

Well the Nexus 5 is like the G2 expect the Nexus have a smaller screen, smaller battery and shitter camera. However, if you compare the price of the phone off contract the Nexus 5 is actually really attractive $399 for 32GB is hard to beat. Also with Nexus 5 you get the latest update directly from google while with LG you have to wait for lg to push the update to the carrier and then have the carrier approve it and for them to add their own thing to it so it could take a while for any updates on the OS.

I pick the Nexus 5 over the G2 becasue Fido doesn't have the G2 and also of the price of the Nexus 5.

The CPU is the same. It's a slightly smaller screen, smaller battery, and not as good camera. But the nexus 5 will have more OS support.

Just found out that you can access the camera by holding down the down volume button.
The up button opens the notepad thing too.

If you guys find out more, please share.

Did not know that! Very cool! (It should be noted, this applies while the phone is asleep/screen is off).

Any idea of these functions can be changed? It would be great if I could load Evernote instead of QuickMemo... (actually, would be even better if QuickMemo could save to Evernote as an option).

Here's another one: if you tap-swipe-hold from one of the soft buttons (the back/home/menu buttons) into the screen area, you get a popup selection of Voice Mate, Search, and QuickMemo. I don't remember if these are configurable, seems to me they might be...

Also, as with most phones, holding the Power and Volume Down buttons together will take a screenshot (little trickier with this phone with the way the buttons are, although it DOES make it possible to do it one-handed!)

Some other neat stuff:

Gestures:

Slide-Aside:

Configurable (to some degree) soft buttons:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...2008.34.34.png

Under the Display settings, you have:
Smart screen - Screen stays on when phone detects your face
Smart video - Video pauses when phone cannot detect your face

G 01-13-2014 09:15 AM

^The soft button thing is configurable from somewhere in the settings...

This may sound kind of noob, but my lock screen keep showing like BELL and Draw pattern to unlock.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it, or get something? I am using Dashclock and it blocks out all my notifications etc...

Soundy 01-13-2014 09:23 AM

Settings -> Lock Screen -> Select screen lock.

I want to keep the pattern lock and stuff, but just get rid of the texts so that my whole dashclock can show up like below:

SMZ 01-13-2014 10:15 AM

Dashclock doesn't really work that way. I use NILS Notifications instead. It's more like the iphone style of lockscreen notifications.

Does it come pre loaded with bbm? I heard LG has some deal with BlackBerry

Telus version doesn't, at least mine didn't... dunno about others... I suspect BM Android is too new to the market to have made it into current ROM releases.

G 01-15-2014 06:11 AM

My Bell version doesn't.

Also, another trick I found out:
-Press and hold onto the Home button and it will load up all the apps running and u can swipe it to the left to terminate them! :) kind of like Apple's double tap thing.

That's common to Android, I think as of ICS.
