Passport Escort 9000i Any reviews or feedback on this device?

Hey guys, friend was suggesting me to get the Passport Escort 9000i radar. Thing is I cant find the I model anywhere online or any reviews. It looks like its discontinued. Does anyone know why ? was there problems to it or like something that wasn't good thats why they discontinued it? If anyone has it or knows about it , I'd like to hear from you fellow Rs'rs Thanks

old model....would either buy the brand new one locally on sale if you type in radar detector in google from KM ca or whatever the name is.....better to have it updated & warrantied if anything screws up...

don't bother with that Canadian tire Corbra either

I bought the 9000i and sent it to Escort to upgrade to 9000ix for $130. I got mine off cg for really cheap and was worth the upgrade.

Buy a V1, anything else is a waste of money

1 big ticket pays for it. Over 10 years with mine, I reckon I saved myself over 200 times, at least 2 times a month (or even more)

Passport Redline or Max is the best on the market right now for detecting.

8500/9500 are still great detectors though.

Cool thing with Escort is you can always send the detector back to get serviced with newest firmware. Saves you from having to buy a new unit everytime. I think the cost is $120 + shipping.

V1 is great also, but personally I prefer the look/interface/detection of the Escort.

Detectors are so expensive. I don't know that most people would actually benefit from having them. If only every driver warned others of speed traps in front of them by flashing highbeams/lights/foglights the world would be a better place.

For completeness sake, V1 also allows you to send the machine back and they send you a new one with better internals. I think Escort probably followed their lead on this.

^so jelly...........

The defender database is an awesome feature, but nothing beats the added shifter(s). Alas, the 9500ix was all I could afford.

How many of you Escort owners have had a speed camera warning? I've only had one and that was in Seattle. On my cross continent trek, that's the only time a speed camera was detected (Chicago, Detroit, Bawston, New York, Toronto Montreal, etc.) Red light cameras were everywhere, of course.

The 9500ix was a great buy for myself. It cost me 350$ and it's saved me from about.. 5 diff speeding tickets that I never thought had traps , like ever lol specially in the states! Was going 150 behind a car that was doing 160 on the I5. Needless to say, my radar went off and I slowed down immediately and couple of seconds later the guy Infront of me go nailed. Great investment. But yes you could always do what everyone is gonna say.. "Drive slow like oh em gee"

Then ur not using it right, that feature is a huge help, it's a tool to be used, not a be all and end all for detecting police in one beep

Built in GPS trumps any directional detector, IMHO.

Be sure to ask for original purchase receipts and packaging if possible... too much stolen stuff on Craigslist these days and radar detectors are one of the easiest smash and grab thefts out there.

Did not know this till now....... you can buy a 8500 X50 bundled with a Smart Cord Live including a year's subscription to Escort Live and use your iPhone or Android 2.2 to get GPS features and live updates through that. Apparently cheaper than buying a 9500ix. Who knew?

Not sure if this would work with older X50 models......... most likely not.

Anyway.

Supplemental question for you gentlemen/women. With the proliferation of laser, aren't detectors like the Passports and Valentines ineffective against this type of technology? While I've contemplated one myself, it seems to me that all a cop has to do is aim a lidar at your plat or headlamps, pull the trigger, and bang, your caught. Especially since the beam patter is so narrow compared to a radar. What are your experiences then?

Thanks,
AJW
