Probably cause it was anti-climatic.
Canada was just too dominant.
Feels weird when people at a pub are doing a countdown.
Oh well, still a good game.

Haha, I cheered the loudest when women's team tied the game in their Gold game.

Bwahahahaha.... watching CBC thing on Russian hockey song. "No Coward Plays Hockey."

Wow, the words are pretty amazing..............

Songwriter is talking about Don Cherry........ old footage from 72 series, LOL. Cowardly Russians, hee hee...........

It's Russia's version of the hockey song by Stompin' Tom Conners.

EDIT: Found the lyrics to the song.....

Spoiler!

EDIT 2:

Found the actual CBC footage

CBC Sports - My Russia: Hockey Song

Yet another hockey related song.......

Lyrics:

Sometimes there are miracles in this world.
And as if it is a joke,
That the best game for our men
By accident was born in Canada.
To the battle on ice
Everyone had that passion. That ancient passion.
Shaybu! Shaybu!
The victory is ours.
Shaybu! Shaybu!
Guys, we are with you.
And if its really needed, we will score another
Shaybu! Shaybu!
Russia is behind you.
Shaybu! Shaybu!
Guys, you are the strength!
We are the Russian team,
We are the Red Machine!
We are the Red Machine!

Canada has had the short end of the stick with reffing in International play for as long as I can remember. We don't need refs to help us win.

Officials were selected by the IIHF and IOC. IIRC, we have only a single member on either of those boards.

And, as we all know, the IIHF hates Sweden :suspicious:

I wish Vancouver could host the Winter Olympics again, what are the chances of that happening a second time?

I thought it was extra special in 2010 because Luongo was in net!

quasi 02-23-2014 06:49 AM

Jonathan Toews has ackomplished so much, only 25 years old and already a lock for the HHOF. Dude is nothing but a winner on every level reminds me of Scott Niedermayer.

Correction: Nothing will ever compare to Canada beating the godless commies in 1972. I kid you not. The whole country stopped working to watch the final game. Same over in Russia.

So much drama in that series. Alan Eagleson being rescued from the Red Army during the game by the players (he gave the crowd the finger, LOL). We fans in Canada and NA, for that matter, were led to believe that Russia would be swept by the mighty Canadian squad. By end of game one, it became clear hockey was not just a Canadian game. We lost game one 7 to 3. The fourth game was one of the darkest moments in Canadian hockey. I was so ashamed to say I was from Vancouver. The fans booed our team during the warm up.

Quote:

Team Canada was booed off the ice at game's end. Responding to the negative public and media reaction in light of the expectation for an overwhelming Team Canada sweep of the series, Phil Esposito made an emotional outburst on Canadian national television:
"To the people across Canada, we tried, we gave it our best, and to the people that boo us, geez, I'm really, all of us guys are really disheartened and we're disillusioned, and we're disappointed at some of the people. We cannot believe the bad press we've got, the booing we've gotten in our own buildings. If the Russians boo their players, the fans ... Russians boo their players ... Some of the Canadian fans—I'm not saying all of them, some of them booed us, then I'll come back and I'll apologize to each one of the Canadians, but I don't think they will. I'm really, really ... I'm really disappointed. I am completely disappointed. I cannot believe it. Some of our guys are really, really down in the dumps, we know, we're trying like hell. I mean, we're doing the best we can, and they got a good team, and let's face facts. But it doesn't mean that we're not giving it our 150%, because we certainly are.
I mean, the more – everyone of us guys, 35 guys that came out and played for Team Canada. We did it because we love our country, and not for any other reason, no other reason. They can throw the money, uh, for the pension fund out the window. They can throw anything they want out the window. We came because we love Canada. And even though we play in the United States, and we earn money in the United States, Canada is still our home, and that's the only reason we come. And I don't think it's fair that we should be booed."[74][75]
Brad Park and Frank Mahovlich also criticized the booing. According to Park: "We get nothing — not a dime for this. Brother, I'm sick". Other players were more sanguine. Dryden didn't lash out at the fans. "I'm disappointed, but I can understand it. The fans wanted us to do real good, and they're frustrated we didn't. I didn't think I deserved to be booed. Tretiak frustrated us, but I guess I didn't frustrate them enough."[74]

First Canadian team to be called "Team Canada."

DanHibiki 02-23-2014 06:58 AM

2010 felt much better because:
1.Came off a disaster 2006 Olympics
2. Luongo was our goalie
3. Would have been the medal to push us into first and the world record
4. Team wasn't perfect and won it in dramatic fashion
5. Played in our country
6. Played in our CITY

RRxtar 02-23-2014 07:16 AM

2010 literally could not have been written better.

Canada playing at home in Canada
olympics in your own city
all the energy that had built up in vancouver thru the olympics leading up to that sunday
canada vs usa for gold
after the usa tied it to goto overtime, everyones heart sank
won it in OT
seemed so fitting that crosby scored it. (whether you like him or not, it was almost his destiny to score that goal)
the celebration downtown after

In our lifetimes? 0%

MG1 02-23-2014 07:41 AM

The only time it could happen is if the host country cannot complete in time. The choices then would be to cancel the games, postpone them for a year, or look for alternative. If the host country's games were called off early enough, it may be possible.

Some hurdles to overcome: Olympic village, security issues, venues needing upgrades, etc.

Steve Yzerman steps down as Team Canada executive director

Steve Yzerman won't be going for a third Olympic gold medal.

Team Canada's executive director says he will not lead the team into the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Yzerman built the team that beat Sweden 3-0 on Sunday to capture a second straight men's hockey gold at the Sochi Olympics.

He leaves his post after leading Team Canada to back-to-back gold medals for the first time since 1948 and 1952.

He assembled one of the best defensive lineups ever to wear the Maple Leaf in Sochi as Canada gave up just three goals in six games.

They shut out the Americans 1-0 in the semifinals before defeating Sweden in the final.

No need to apologize......... your post gave me a chance to bring up what people call, "The Series of the Century."

Many said it was the defining moment for hockey. It opened up our eyes to how good other countries' hockey teams and players were. Everybody wanted Vladislav Tretiak, their greatest goalie, and arguably the best goalie in hockey history, to come play here.

Speed2K 02-23-2014 12:03 PM

For me I think Vancouver 2010 takes the cake.

For these Olympics I think the game vs team USA was more exciting than this Gold medal game and the women's game was lights out awesome!
