if ur sick from food poisoning, only charcoal tabs work to cure food poisoning. antibiotics r for wound infections which as of right now is not implemented yet. and do not consume any rotten fruit, u have a good 80ish% chance of getting sick

i'm tempted to buy this game.. but is it any fun by yourself? or you pretty much have to play with a group to survive?

and how do servers work? like each server is completely separate and changes are persistent to each server?

and you guys play on one specific server with a bunch of strangers?

You could totally lone wolf it if you want and can survive quite well if you're observant/perceptive of your surroundings. Otherwise, it'll be better to play in a group.

Servers are separated into private and public hives. As you can imagine, private hives will store their own data that is separate from public servers. However, all public servers (and there are TONS) will share data so once you have gear from one, you'll have gear in all (and you'll also respawn in the same area you exited). Public and private hives/servers do not share data though.

Each server may have a little difference between one another. Things like respawn time and amount of people will defer but it isn't any big concept that is game changing.

We play on whatever server (or at least I do) because I don't have a favourite.

TIPS (if you get it): Join an empty or near empty server. This way, you can figure out how to get gear and what not to survive without having to deal with other people that want to kill you (aka bandits). Figure out what is good loot and random shit you'll never need (in the alpha, things like paper, pens, matches, etc... are all useless). And the best part, is you get to keep all this loot/gear when you join a more populated server.

Lastly, don't get discouraged if you die a few times in the beginning (or throughout the game). It's all about learning and adapting. And you can choose to be either a hero (that helps others) or a bandit (the person that kills on sight).

Also -- Don't eat rotten fruits.

When you run into a person with lesser gear than you, being a hero works. Most times (at least that ive encountered), when you run into someone with better equal or better gear than you (provided you have some sort of primary firearm) they treat you as a bandit. :(

Was watching some streams early, damn people working in like small groups of 3-5 people doing military style tactics. 3 guys strategically took out a group of 5+ lol. Sniping, cover fire, flanking, baiting them out. Was pretty epic.

When dhillon09 and another friend were looting a military compound, we found these guys that logged into a prison/jail when I opened the door. On TS, I mediated relayed contact and the 3 of us had the building surrounded.

Eventually went up there to meet the guys and we were just as well equipped as they were (there was only 2 of them) and we said our hellos and goodbyes in like 5 minutes. No killing.

^ That one guy was getting choked that I kept giving him the middle finger in game LOL, then I took out my soda and had a drink and they left us alone.

This game is so random, and your experience depends so much on the people you have in the server with you -- I guess that's what makes it attractive.

Also, all the 'noob friendly no bandits' servers bug me, because there is no way of monitoring whose a bandit/whose not and there's no way of kicking/banning bandits specifically because there's no message saying "XXX killed XXX"

Anyway, I'm tempted to rent a cheap public server and restart it to reload loot every time my friends log on. Collect loot, then go douche up other servers. Bad idea?

the noob friendly/no bandits servers r BS, its just a random announcement on the server saying no KOS, or no banits BS like that, no body ever monitors or enforces anything cus there is actually no way of doin it.

I found a LA hosting company hosting dayZ standalone for $30/month -- I'll look into it further on friday because AFAIK for it to be a public hive server it has to follow certain protocols (one of them limits restarts, so I'll have to look into it a bit further)

Only friendly people were the ones with little to no gear.

just a friendly reminder if u guys play late on week days, ALL servers go down every wednesday at 0700 GMT for 3 hr for maintenance, which i believe is 11PM tuesday night for now, or 12AM wednesday morning after daylight savings time. u better exit the servers well before else ur character might not save or get killed

if anyone found a mosin and needs some ammo, i have 220+ rounds to share, also found a pristine ACOG scope for the M4A1 if anyone uses that rifle

start watching from 5:45 until the end
