You've already mentioned twice now that the hole is going to bother you. I don't think you should buy them unless you're prepared to properly fix that hole. if you end up buying them, you might feel that even at $675, it's still not a good deal. $675 isn't easy to come by, so why subject yourself to the stress of spending that much money on something that's damaged.

And the feeling of :fulloffuck: everytime someone gets out of your seat, are you ready for that? I started picking and choosing who i drive based on whether or not they'll wreck my seats. :concentrate:

I know it'll bother me, but for 675 (talked him down 25 bucks, tried 50) I think its basically the best deal. No?

The bolsters on it are pretty decent, not good but not bad. Nothing really that I can complain about just normal wear and tear over time. No big dents doesn't need a repair.

I told him I'll get them tomorrow but I'm still in debating mode.

the last time i saw a repair for a rip like this the upholster literally sat there with a needle and stout thread and stitched it back together. his repair was a nice square that was noticable, but not like what it looks like before.

you took a decent pic of the damage. put it on your smartphone go find an upholsterer and show it to them. there are a few threads on RS with recommendations.

Thanks for the input, I'm going to go grab them at 10. I talked to garage 5 about civic rails trading him the ITR ones for them +50 bucks apparently. I plan to go there in person and work out some sort of deal.

Or do you guys think trading rails plus giving them 50 bucks is a deal? I don't think it is unless they're willing to put the seats in for me.

If you have a socket set you can swap seats in a couple minutes.

how much would it cost to buy the civic hardware outright?

i haven't read all the other posts. like someone already said, i remember the oem seat brackets made the seats sit really high in my dc2, but i don't know what it is like in a civic. have you tried mounting them in your car first to see whether you need something lower? i ended using lowdown sliders from vision which i bought from AJ Racing back in the day. they were literally just sliders with no frame bolted straight to the seat bottoms and tabs welded to the sliders themselves to mount to the floor, and a tab for bolting on the seatbelt buckle. there was a single lever handle for fore/aft adjustment and it locked on one side. it was minimal at best, but it cut down on unecessary weight and height.

That's too bad about that hole, you may be able to repair it somehow. Perhaps speak with an upholstery shop? If you need to repair the seats you can purchase spare parts from Capital Seating

Capital Seating and Vision > Seating, Vision and Accessories for Hardworking Environments

I'm not sure if they ship internationally though. Maybe call or email the company to find out.

Good luck
Cheers!

DC2-R seats are great, good combination of support and comfort. They sit higher than the stock seats in an ITR so make sure you are ok with that. Besides the worn bolsters, some seats also end up with side to side play of the seat back where it connects to the bottom seat area. It can be fixed with new nylon bushings where the seat release hooks grab.

Trim Up Auto repaired some messed up Recaros I sold a long time ago. They did an excellent job and used genuine Recaro material IIRC. I take it you have a 96-00 Civic since you're looking for rails. Trading DC2 rails for EK9 rails + $50 is actually a decent deal. A shop does need to make money and this is how you build a relationship with a shop. Rich @ G5 is a stand up guy, I've dealt with him many, many times.

As others have mentioned, installing the seats is rather easy and tbh, I wouldn't expect the shop to do that for you. Time is money, right? :)

white rocket 03-26-2014 11:18 AM

The rail swap +$50 is a decent deal for the sake of ease and peace of mind. Personally I'd want to be closer to $600 for the seats but it's ultimately up to you.

+1 for GarageFive

chrishk 03-26-2014 11:21 AM

Personally, I think for $600, you cant expect 10/10 products. I think you're getting a great deal for what you're paying for genuine recaros!

KingKaze 03-26-2014 01:23 PM

Just installed them but I realized I put the wrong seat on the wrong rails, I'll take a picture later and post it up to show you guys. Thanks a lot for the input, I wish I coulda got them for cheaper. But after driving from G5 home, holy... the difference? I feel like I could drive for days.

p.s. nah G5 threw my tools and said I could do the work there so that was cool of them too haha. I keep buying from them and yeah you could say I'm building a good relationship with them.

european 03-26-2014 01:35 PM

Congrats on your new purchase.
enjoy!

KingKaze 03-26-2014 11:24 PM

So I drove around in them for the day and my ass is basically too big for the seats to be comfy in long periods of time.. so... guess I gotta sell em lol. Damn.

white rocket 03-27-2014 08:56 AM

Man, that sucks. At 200lbs and a 36" waist they fit me perfect for track duty or long drives. You should be able to get most, if not all, of your money back in a sale.

Yeah, I'm sure I can just a matter of time. I do love when I turn how it hugs me though haha. Think I'm just going to sell these and use the money fora carbon fiber trunk instead.

seats are my next mod.

im debating whether i should get a dc2 recaro in black or bride gias low max replica.

does anyone know which one sits lower (and more comfortable on long journeys)?
when i look at people's pics, dc2 seats seem like they keep your butt pretty low.

Poknat 03-27-2014 06:54 PM

I'll buy it for 600$

fliptuner 03-27-2014 06:55 PM

I keep thinking of this @ 2:27

HondaGuy 03-27-2014 07:42 PM

Sucks to hear the dc2r recaros didnt work for you... All that work and research...
I sat in dc5r recaros and those are more comfy for larger seating...

I've always thought of starting one......so......
