| Resignation letter
Hi guys, is there a legal time period that you have to let your employer know if you are resigning from the company?
Is there a format for a resignation letter?
*I am in commission sales and some people say that we can part ways anytime*
Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks in advance !

there is no required time frame needed, but its common courtesy to give at least 2 weeks. That way you leave on good terms.

Unless you are signed to a contract stating otherwise, if you dont want to use them for a reference, walk out today and go find another job. They wouldnt give you 2 weeks to find a new job if they wanted to let you go.

I'm in sales and the day you give your notice is usually the day they walk you out the door - but you will get paid for the two weeks providing you offer that in your letter. One place I gave 30 days notice (they were always all about 30 day notice to the clients) - so I got a month paid while I cruised around. Rare, but it happend

I am working in 100% commision sales (no wage or salary)

Here is my resignation letter so far: "This is to let you know that I am resigning from __________ as of today. To help make sure that there is a smooth transition for the team, I will gladly stay longer if needed to assist as best as I can.
I have enjoyed my time working here and have learned lots of stuff. The reason I am leaving is because I have received a job offer at a different location.
Hopefully the advance notice I am giving you today will show you that I am resigning in good faith."
**can someone look over it for me and see if I should change anything? I didnt state "2 weeks" but i did say I will stay "longer" if needed**

but you can simplify it.
To ______,
I regret to inform you that as of Friday, April 11 2014, I will be resigning my position at ___________.
I apologize for any inconvenience that this will cause. I understand if you wish to dismiss me earlier than this date, however I understand my notice of two weeks should be ample time for you to fulfil the position.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work with you.
