Okay I actually caught this at like 11 this morning thanks to someone that posted it on FB.

And the people that did this are almost entirely retarded. And deserve whatever heavy handed punishment they receive.

But something else caught my attention and pissed me off too. Following the suit of that joke of a site Vancity Buzz both CTV and global had news stories posted on this and all three made it sound as though the statues which were damaged (and I quote) "the iconic lions at the south end of the lions gate". I'm sorry but the actual statues that were vandalized were the statues on the overpass, not the large statues which get decorated for canucks playoff and such.

You will notice that all both websites have since updated the stories to actually include some factual data.

Am I the only one that feels that Global and CTV are quickly deteriorating to the level of that shit hole that is Vancity Buzz? I mean come on get something factual or atleast double check before just posting what vancitybuzz has. Your supposed to be a news outlet, not digging for hits by blowing every story out of proportion like vancitybuzz does.

The way the pictures that were originally up there made these look identical to the larger lions, (taken pointing upwards no visible landmarks, etc).

These must have been made from molds right... hopefully it can be restored... if some stupid teens did this, there should be a public flogging.

The lion has been a symbol of British imperialism through out time... if this was a political stunt, it achieves nothing.

It goes to show that young Chinese, Russian and Iranian males are a threat to the Canadian government if a world war breaks out... they'll probably end up in "internment" camps for hard labour then be drafted.

Vancouver is like one giant halfway house. So many pathetic useless skids with nothing to offer the world. Stupidity at its finest.

I would sentence the perps to create a comparable sculpture, make a mold and reproduce a few pieces.
It is a shame to deface the work of another.

Even if they manage to catch the vandals, what's really going to happen? What kind of penalties would actually make a difference?

If they're minors, the parents should be pay for some of the restoration cost and go to a re-education center on how to raise kids.

One of my friends came up with a brilliant plan. They should catch whoever did it, and make them pay for a new statue. Then they should replace the lion with a life size figure of the vandal sucking a dick. And below it have a plaque explaining the significance.

I thought that was a hilarious idea.

the punishment should be monetary, if they're 'regular' kids from 'regular' families (i.e. not high net worth) - a debt that will stay with them for years.

if they're some rich kid fucks, jail.

we need sentences that will hurt the individual the most all whilst not costing the government much
