With a big house and trees on one side, and a hill on the other, you have to slowly creep out from that stop sign in order to not get t-boned.
These assholes? They just blast through without even slowing down.
They weave from one lane to the other, zig zagging the entire way down.
I have nearly ran over one of these assholes over a hundred times.
They ride they like they own the road, they don't care about the traffic on either side of the road, they don't care about people walking their dogs, they don't care about cyclists, they don't care about cars pulling out of driveways.
Not to mention, they don't have brakes like cars or bikes, they don't stay in one lane like cars or bikes, they don't even attempt to stop at any stop sign like cars or bikes.

The cop should've plowed them all over. They serve more purpose as pavement paint than people.

i guess it takes a local to really provide insight.. for a lot of us, we're just responding to what we see/think based on that video.

but put into context, i can appreciate your point of view as well the cops.

Dragon-88 04-15-2014 09:42 AM

Ended up searching up long board crashes, and damn, these guys are crazy dumb.

z3german 04-15-2014 10:22 AM

pretty fucking stupid. If im driving 130 in a 50 zone, and an accident happens far away enough for me to stop if i was going 80, but not far enough for 130 (and end up hitting the crash site), obviously its my fault.

Cop didnt swerve to cut em off, cop could have just as well been preparing to do a typical road block, or get off his car to see something suspicious. If you cant stop in your vehicle of choice (longboard) you are obviously going way too fast.

Thats why most times rear enders are usually 100% at fault with ICBC, you didnt have enough distance to stop you idiot!

meme405 04-15-2014 10:54 AM

Just to give people some perspective, here are a couple of google maps snapshots to give you an idea of where this is happening and its extent.

The first picture shows where they got caught and towards the sharp switchback they were flying directly into.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...psc90317ca.jpg

The next image shows that intersection they were headed into at the switchback. You will note they have a stop sign for which they never stop.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...psfd448b45.jpg

The next two images show how widespread this behaviour is, on any given summer day it is impossible to go up the entire hill without seeing atleast one group of idiots participating in this activity. So its not some rare incident to see them in that area. Its almost a guarantee.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps6b979bba.jpg

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps9d57449f.jpg

Those are snap shots from the day google streetview car went through the area, obviously the longboarders were out that day.

GabAlmighty 04-15-2014 11:53 AM

I think i'm gonna go longboard down the hill now just to piss everyone off..

BrRsn 04-15-2014 12:01 PM

If I lived on the street, rather than complaining and calling the cops, i'd just buy some gravel, put it in my passenger seat, and drive up and down the road at night time throwing gravel onto the road like it was candies in the santa claus parade.

Then set up webcam.

then make millions of youtube

Maybe this time the police car will have a push bar installed...:troll:

stewie 04-15-2014 12:25 PM

dumb fucks, they deserve every bit of the fine they got.

they're lucky it was a cop who was trying to stop them...next time it might be a random persons car. id like to see them pull out the "wtf are you doing! thats dangerous!!" routine.

in august, in maple ridge, just off 240th and kanaka way, theres a highschool at the top of mcclure street. i got to watch a dumb fucking 14-16 year old kid come ripping around a corner on his longboard and get pinned under the front of a dodge pick up. paramedics had to transport him on a stretcher to the highschool football field 1 block away where he was air lifted to vgh. hope he learned a lesson and that him and his friends never touch a long board again.

i still have the video on my iphone of the helicopter lifting off with the paramedics and fire dept in the background lol

underscore 04-15-2014 12:42 PM

"cuts off?" what a joke. That police SUV could just as easily have been a regular vehicle going to turn left up that hill (like the big one just behind the police for instance...).

Judging by the dickheads FB page he didn't learn a damn thing, so I hope when he does smash into someone he doesn't injure them.

westopher 04-15-2014 01:08 PM

Maybe these guys will get a real fucking skateboard now. Longboarders are in the same realm as street lugers and downhill rollerbladers. The only place they belong is a mountain dew commercial.

underscore 04-15-2014 01:12 PM

I read some of the youtube comments and have come to the conclusion that longboarders are some of the stupidest people around. I mean even the dumbest people who street race wouldn't do it in a residential area in the middle of the day (using that as an example as it is both fast, on streets, and illegal).

That's a tad excessive don't you think?

maxx 04-15-2014 11:03 PM

They should not be longboarding on public streets, the officer's actions were justified. And that was not a crash.

Sunfighter 04-15-2014 11:11 PM

I have done Loss Prevention work all over the province over the past 14 years
and the WVPD is be FAR the best force I have ever interacted with... by far the most sincere, cooperative and respectful department around.

I have actually interacted with the officer in this video as well and despite being relatively young he is very professional and mature.

That said - I do not object in anyway to his actions in this video... I tried to imagine myself on a motorbike, in a car or on a bicycle.... and given the conditions (sunny and dry) and distance (plenty) I would easily have been able to come to a smooth, safe stop.... HOWEVER, I wouldn't have needed to because there was still PLENTY of room in the right hand lane.... that the longboarders all bailed with so much distance to stop is alarming....

Laws against longboarding exist to protect those that would otherwise engage in the activity............. it's there to keep them alive because it is generally understood how extremely dangerous it is. You are attempting to share space with cars, buses, garbage trucks, dump trucks, etc!

multicartual 04-15-2014 11:16 PM

If you're not living on the edge you're just taking up space

sekin67835 04-16-2014 01:18 AM

Seems like they are going downhill fast. Without brakes, they are just waiting for an accident to happen

I like booze and BBQ meat, I guess I deserve cancer

Fuck RS has lost it's sense of adventure. Anyone have any statistics on how many people die/get injured from longboarding? I bet the number is probably lower than the number of people injured by lightning annualy. I spent 15 mins looking for statistics across the USA and it appears that skateboarding/longboarding is tied with lightning strikes for fatalities.

To put that into perspective:

Approximate lightning/skateboarding deaths per year:

60 +/-

2012 car accident deaths: 34,080
Accidental gun deaths per year: 500 (approx)
CNN reported 120 people died in 2012 due to Peanut allergies

You cunts need to realize that for the number of total longboarding hours universally the amount of deaths is pretty fucking miniscule

Because they're lucky enough that people in cars and bikes slam on our brakes, and people walking or walking their dogs jump out of the way.
Cancer isn't going to say, "oh fuck, better slam on my brakes/jump out of the way and not give this guy cancer".
Nor do guns say, "oh shit better stop myself from going off and shooting this guy in the face".

and I know TONS of responsible long boarders who don't put themselves and others in danger.

I'd rather be a cunt than a dumbfuck.

I'm sorry but this is just wrong, how many people drive cars vs longboard? It's not the fatality count alone, it's the percentage of people who engage in an activity that are killed and the amount of time they spend engaged in it. People allergic to peanuts are allergic to them 24/7/365, not just an hour every couple weekends. Millions of cars are driving for millions of hours carrying millions of people, there's no way longboarding is anything close to that.

Think of it this way, if 60 people play Russian Roulette with a revolver, ~10 people would be dead in about 5 minutes. Now 12x as many people were killed by peanut allergies but there are a lot more than 60 people with them, and they have them all the time not just for 5 minutes.

And then on top of that, you're not considering non-fatal injuries from longboarding suffered by both the longboarders and any innocent bystanders they may physically or emotionally injure by crashing into them. At least one of the wipeout videos showed a longboarder slamming into a guy crossing the street, what if that was a child or baby in a stroller?
