Dyson Fan Power Consumption

Hi Folks,

I'm looking to buy a Dyson Fan but I'm worried about my electrical bill.

Will it consume a lot of electricity? I'm planning to have it on for about 8 hours
a day.

Anyone here have experience with Dyson Fan?

Thanks

Presto 04-17-2014 03:10 PM

Regardless of brand, fans are, generally, easy on the power consumption. I have those dual-fan units that go in the window. With both fans going, on high, the power consumption was around 50 watts (measured with a Kill-a-Watt).

EDIT:
A quick Google shows these consumption numbers for the Dyson AM01:
Lowest setting: 2-3W
Medium setting1: 13-14W
Highest setting: 31W
Oscillation enabled: +2W

Quick math, at max 33W, that's .033kW... current BC Hydro residential rate is 7.52 cents/kWh, so the fan would cost you about a quarter of a cent per hour to operate... or two cents to run for eight hours.

Isn't that like buying a Ferrari and worrying about the cost of fuel?

Were they using a fan heater model? There's no way that just a fan would consume that much electricity. That's heater country. Tell us what model you're looking at.

Those people are either trolling or using a model with a heater built in

I have an older model of this one:

Dyson AM06 Desk Fan 30cm (12inch) Bladeless Fan White Silver - Free Delivery | Dysoncanada.ca

For my small apartment it's awesome in the summer. I would guess that because my heat isn't on in my apartment in the summer, it kinda cancels out.

Plus it looks awesome, and it really quiet. The new model says 70% quieter; I don't know how that's possible because it's already damn quiet!

JesseBlue 04-18-2014 12:25 PM

I have a regular fan and is awesome in the summer too... I dont mind the noise as the tv is usually louder...
Dyson fans as great as it looks is too expensive and i dont see any savings by getting it... I've seen knockoffs that cost around 50 bucks which i think is a better value..,hehe

Where? Sorry I miss that part. I'm more looking for a real life examples. Company could put numbers like this but nothing beats real life.

BTW i'm only spending around 289 or less :) I found a way to lessen it :)

Nightmarket, $40 lol

Presto 04-18-2014 05:18 PM

LOL. If you're truly concerned about costs, then go get a non-Dyson fan. It may not be as quiet, but I'm sure it can be just as powerful as a Dyson. If you pay for electricity with the cost savings, you'll be able to power that fan for a decade or two.

It says 26W in the specs. They can't lie about that. And that is max power consumption, not even typical.

$200 for a fan is still retarded

What's so special about these fans ways anyway? They don't seem that powerful when I try at future shop before. My fan is louder but it is like 10x more powerful lol (Well mine fan is more for industry/warehouse use). Is so powerful I never need to turn it higher than Medium lol.

Marketing. They look "cool" and are marketed as "bladeless" (they have blades, they are just in the base). They try to say that having less "choppy" or "buffeted" wind is relevant.

For the people not fooled by marketing, they probably just want to buy a $400 fan to be able to show their wealth in yet another ostentatious way.

impactX 04-23-2014 06:12 AM

I have a Dyson DC32 vacuum... but can't justify paying that much for a fan.
