With the E90 generation, the 325 / 328 / 330 all use the same N52 engines. The power difference comes from different ECU tuning as well as some minor hardware differences. Grassroots Motorsports actually has a 328 project on hand where they are doing precisely the needed upgrades to get the car back to 330 power levels:

https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/pr...o-our-e90-bmw/

The car looks clean and the price is attractive. But I have been completely spoiled by Japanese reliability, so I wouldn't dare to venture into something like this even when it looks like a good deal.

There are 3IMs that come up on facebook marketplace here and there. I've been tempted to get more power, but adding more parts that can fail on the bimmer seems like tempting the BMW gods to punish me.

Nope. Been doing various refreshes since it was a 15 year old car already. Tires, wheels, fluids (not all done yet), suspension. Have a water pump I have to throw in next summer. Want to maybe do the clutch delay valve delete too. Anyone done it?

^ I've been thinking about the clutch delay valve on my M3, but it's not enough of a bother for me to really invest time on it.

I’m debating between a few but would love thoughts. Ideally something I can steal and enjoy here and there, even if it is just for looks. Must be auto she won’t drive stick, prefer hatch becuz doggo. Leading contenders are; bmw wagon of some sort, golf R, GTI, even alltrack if they’re okay.

They're small and easy to park, but have about 65 cubic feet of space in the hatch when the seats are folded down, which is more than a lot of other small CUVs and wagons.

Tapioca wins! After hours of back and forth research, going through every car under the sun, the Alltrack made the most sense and is a blast to drive. Really excited to get to work and turn it into the Golf R wagon I've *cough* I mean my wife has always dreamed about. Tons of support for them locally and a pretty solid car overall from what I've gathered. Quick tune and it surpasses GTI numbers with a smaller turbo, swap in a golf r turbo (direct bolt on) and it's a pocket rocket. Car will live in a garage so less worried about the leaky roof since it comes from clogged drains usually.

This would be much more roomy than the Golf R. The two aren't interchangeable.

^i don’t think it was.

I had an 2016 alltrack sportwagen and the rear seat room felt the same as a gti / golf r. The extra room was purely in the trunk area

Right about 25k with no taxes basically (trade in) so I’m happy, one owner, clean, 75k kms, dsg, and lots of room for doggo and kiddos. Any golf R under 30k has either seen some shit/rebuilt/clapped out/not dsg

Its a good car, and the last of the good golfs. The DSG is a bit finnicky though, i wish id gotten the manual but they didnt make manuals and 4motion till a few years later.

Regret lease returning that car in 2020 but i did get a shit ton of money back from the dealership. They gave me 4k in cash and then proceeded to flip the car for 25k (buyout was 14k)

Saw it on FB, nice sample, 2019 and relatively low kms

I've been eyeing this one, allroad but black plastic cladding must have been body color matched or painted white (which matches my username). Sadistic for the Audi tax for parts and service but I'm sure VW parts and service is right up there. Only advantage is that this is 2.0T and it is already tuned to 220hp so it would save you the tune on the 1.8T to get it there. That and maybe slightly bigger here and there.

Could have been factory colour-matched - that was an option.

I mean yeah the 2.0T makes more power... it's a different engine than the 1.8T lol. The Audi 2.0T comes with variable intake valve timing as well to get that extra power. Has the ZF8 which is a nice transmission. Maintenance, they are similar, the only thing that is markedly more expensive IMO are bushings/control arms since they're aluminium instead of stamped steel. The A3/S3 comes with aluminium control arms too, instead of stamped steel like the GTI/Golfs.

Room wise they are similar. I find that the MLB platform that the B8/B9 is based on is better dynamically than the MQB.

I drove Golf R and Alltrack back to back when I was shopping for an "AWD" golf.

MQB drives really refined for the pedestrian trims but the GTI PP and R aren't that exciting, even if you put Ohlins and PS4S like I later did on a 6MT 7.5R.

MLB is just "fine" as well at the A4/5 level, but the S and RS aren't great. I find it kind of heavy and unstable on braking.

BMW chassis is best in the segment (330i vs A4 vs C300), but the MLB can keep up compared to previous gens.

Interesting, I found the (B9) A4 to be an excellent braking car - the S actually needs more brakes than what it comes with IMO. A4 vs S4 is not much different except for power drive wise IMO.

Have not gotten to drive a RS5 so would be curious.

I think on all of them, they seem to steer a bit while braking when I expect it to track straight.

RS5 feels heavy like the GD and GR STi … and not in a good way.

F30 has its own issues (too soggy) and the G20 static suspension on the 330i has them too (over damped in the rear)
