E85 Coming to a gas station in Vancouver, BC Canada
 

I'm buying a gas station and bringing E85 to one of the pumps. I've posted a thread in the off-topic area. If you don't mind providing feedback or taking the survey it would be much appreciated. I'm really excited about this and hope there are enough people that want it in the Lower mainland.

Surrey is a huge potential market. If our first location does well, we will start looking for something out there or perhaps Langley?

Everyone there drives the 10 minutes to the Abbotsford/Aldergrove border, or even cross into Blaine. Both locations have significantly cheaper gas. I've seen many a fuel station go bust due to it.

E85, though... Not a fan. It's great if you want to tune your car for it, but otherwise the mileage is horrendous.

So, all the stuff I've read on the internet is negative about E85.

Are there any links for the good stuff? I'm assuming there are benefits for tuning Turbo engines?

E85's benefits come out in high compression engines, as the octane rating exceeds what's typically available from other consumer grade, though it usually falls between 94 and 96.

Wow, that's awesome, that's much better than the 93 I can get locally. Time to get a new tune for my Subaru.

The effective octane of E85 in the summer months (when it's actually really close to E85) is around 105 (RON) and AKI of 99 (which is what you would be familiar with up here in Canada). It is a very good fuel for forced induction and high compression motors that need lower combustion temperatures and knock resistance. Increased timing, compression, and boost all contribute to more power. Much Much more power :-)

if i'm tuned for 94 octane gas, would pumping e85 provide any benefits such as better knock resistance, maybe even little more power? not sure if I feel like driving to Portland to retune for e85.

People actually thinking about re-tuning there DD for E85 just because one gas station is selling it. What happens if they run out and you are low on gas or they shut down or you plan on taking a trip?

I would be running Cobb Accessport, so you just push a button for the lower-octane tune.

FlexFuel tune just like I did with my car.

Ethanol content analyzer that feeds Cobb or Ecutek and proper scaling for the varying ethanol content. It's the best stuff ever! You have a true flexfuel car which can be filled with any amount of regular gas or E85 or any combination in between.

dual tune map, I got tuned in portland primarily for US 92 and my backup is CAD chevron 94. I can switch maps with my accessport or by holding the cruise button for 3 seconds. I would do the same with e85.

Is this for your BMW? not sure who supports that, but I know that Cobb and Ecutek have FlexFuel support for quite a number of makes and models.

In hindsight i just don't think E85 would work for me, so ignore one of the survey results...
