This reflects some of the views RSers have on this topic. Referenced on the threads previously in OT where dogs were involved in posts.
I thought I'd share this video. This forum seemed the most appropriate place to put it.
What are your thoughts on this guy? Do you think his techniques work? I ask because I would like to be a dog owner one day, if I'm able to. So I'm researching what it would take to have one. Training them is my main concern right now.
I haven't looked into him personally since I don't have dogs, but he has a REALLY bad reputation among "positive training" people and dog lovers in general.
Note that these are dog lovers - not people who use working dogs as tools (which is what they have been used as for hundreds of years).
Willing to sell a family member for a few minutes on RS

I agree with skinny. A lot of people in my "dog circle" do not approve of his dominance techniques, and believe that it results in pent up aggression in dogs, in some circumstances. However the people that believe that tend to think under no circumstances is punishment an option of any kind. However, I don't believe thats entirely realistic. However I do believe in positive training methods and the "no free lunch" program as mentioned above. I strongly suggest working with a professional at the beginning, especially if its your first dog. Not only for the dog, but for you. Your understanding of a dog is helped tremendously when someone with experience can explain what it is that makes dogs tick, and why they do what they do.
