The three kids are good and pretty funny, don't know about the mom and pop .. we'll see |
My wife and I love this show. From CLC to the tear aways, MIATA, basketball, and the rap music. I can relate to Lil' Eddie. |
Miata ftw. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v...22320793073546 https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v...88216383506623 For the record, the Miata in the episode was in fact a 1997 M-Edition in Marina Green not BRG. |
Success Perm was an awesome episode. Easily the best so far. Tatas and Miatas :lol |
lol, I don't care what any of you say, I love this show. Now I'm not going to confirm anything, but I may have had a perm in the 90s too ... this show definitely takes me back! |
Where you guys watching this show on? |

Pretty funny show in a racist way. But I'm Chinese and can relate to some stuff. Lol |
H-Town and LL ..... :notbad: |
good last episode, mom was hilarious |
you know i figured out why the accents are so bad. it's not the accents per se... even if they have those crappy accents... it's their grammar. they're using "accents" and speaking almost perfect grammar. if they use those shitty accents and speak broken english like a real fob, it would be 100x better. They use very western slang and sayings, when in real life, fobs wouldn't be saying those things. it's like being read Shakespeare with a fake fob accent. it just doesn't go together. |
To that point, in the last episode (with the sleepover), the mom used a pretty advanced English idiom (can't remember what it was) that kinda threw me off. |
that is exactly why it sounds so awkward. |

Also the accent is nothing like what a mandarin accent sounds like... So it's double shit |
the mom is hot |
Personally I think it's a great show, growing up during that time in a first-generation Asian immigrant family I find it super relatable. I even showed a few episodes to my dad and he was able to relate a lot to Randall Park's character as the struggle in the show to assimilate and create a new beginning in the West was spot-on, especially the part where Spoiler! But that's the problem IMO. A few of my white friends have watched it, and though they do find it humorous, they "just don't get it". Things like the "success perm", "CLC", and the grandmothers' obsession with TV are pretty "Asian" things that a lot of non-Asians don't really get. Sort of like how we Asians watch "Friends" and don't get why they never lock their doors or take off their shoes, only it extends to the whole plot of the show. Personally, I think people who are complaining that a Korean man is playing a Taiwanese man are just plain retarded and just want something to bitch about. I don't see people complaining when a white person of Italian/Irish descent plays a white American with a fake Texan accent, like Bradley Cooper playing Chris Kyle in American Sniper. I don't see it racist at all, and I am Asian, but rather I am happy that there are finally shows about Asian people and touches on our cultural idiosyncrasies. Looking forward to how the show evolves as it goes on and we learn more about the characters. |

loving this series ! |
For me, I think the series has been just okay so far. So far, it's had higher ratings than Parks and Recreation, but I don't know how much staying power it has. I think I might have enjoyed Everybody Hates Chris more, which is literally the exact same thing but from a black family perspective. |
Wonder Years was better than both those shows, which is literally the exact same thing from a white family in the 60's perspective |

Wonder Years - White family, 1968 to 1973, unspecified location Everybody Hates Chris - Black family, 1982 to 1987, Brooklyn Fresh Off the Boat - Chinese family, 1995 to ?, Orlando While looking this up, it looks like there's actually another similar show currently as well. The Goldbergs - White family, 1980's, Jenkintown, Pennsylvania |
