When my wife went into apple store to get her screen replaced after my son wrecked it, the genius took her phone in, and prepared the bill for her to sign for the repair cost. After 10min, the guy came out and said the technician noticed her home button was acting a bit off (which my wife said she never noticed anything) and winked at her saying she's getting a new phone. So they charged her the replacement of the screen, and sent her away with a spanking new phone.
My wife was glad as she had dings here and there after being dropped by my son.

So I went to get my phone replaced under AppleCare+. I was talking to the guy and he said that they will usually replace just the cracked screen even if it the body is scraped and dinged.
Luckily, my phone had an unfortunate accident involving a car so the body was bent and the sapphire glass covering the camera was cracked. He said that the broken glass on the camera means automatic replacement of the phone.    | |

Yeah the phone is actually pretty sturdy. I believe the car ran over it three times and everything still worked. But the car was also going pretty slowly... Around 10km/h haha

I paid for comprehensive coverage of my phone.
I've gotten it replaced when the 5's were nicked out of the box. If they tried to change just the glass on my scratched up phone, they would be the ones scamming.
