Shenzhen beach ruined by 362 tonnes of garbage left by tourist during 3 day festival

Looks like a bloody war zone....

Quote:

If you thought litter had become an intolerable problem on our beaches, spare a thought for these holidaymakers.

They arrived for a day out at Dameisha Beach Park in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong province, only to be greeted by 362 tonnes of garbage.

The 160,000-square-metre beach is now a chaotic scene of discarded food and drinks packages, broken sun mats and inflatable toys.

The trash was left behind by some 480,000 visitors who attended the Dragon Boat Festival holiday.

This happens everywhere in the world after every holiday (I remember there was one in BC a few weeks ago)

But never to this extent :heckno:

Ulic Qel-Droma 06-06-2014 12:48 AM

typical western propaganda.

what they're not including is that the very next day it'll probably be clean. a million city workers woulda cleaned it up over night.

StylinRed 06-06-2014 12:50 AM

garbage is expected

but im wondering how many people pooped/peed on the beach

v_tec 06-06-2014 12:56 AM

Like I said, you see the exact same story everywhere, after every holiday. It's not "propaganda", it's an amazing scene.

the way garbage is delt with in south east asia is just saddening

amazing beautiful scenery and garbage every where along towns, roads everywhere...

took the train in myanmar a couple weeks ago and people just throw their shit right out the window...kids, adults everyone

i think the main problem a complete lack of understanding that what their doing is discussing and ruing their countries and two they're just too lazy to do anything else with it

+1.

India is a prime example of a place were no fucks are given for anyone or anything.

Case in point, I went to Mumbai last year and visited Juhu beach and there was not one inch of beach which wasn't littered with garbage and debris, it was awful. What was even more shocking was people walking barefoot like no big deal even though the entire beach was littered with glass and other sharp objects.

That is truly sad to see..

my first job after high shool was working in stanley park sanitation.

english bay was not that bad in comparison. sure theres lots of garbage. but the pictures of that beach are just disgusting. do they not have employees working during the holiday to clean up as the day goes by?? there's those little straw mat things they lay on spread all over the place as if they brought it there to use knowing they would just leave it on the ground. disgusting pigs. if a garbage can is full, is it really that hard to carry your personal trash to the next available bin? all your garbage can easily fit into a safeway bag.

i used to be a garbage man when i was younger. working at english bay, celebration of lights was the day we dreaded. but in comparison it was nowhere near that bad. littering is a pet peeve of mine now because i used to be the poor bastard holding those paper picking tongs and had to go throughout the entire park and beaches daily.

people like that are useless. almost as useless as the people who walk their dogs and let them shit on other peoples property and dont pick it up

never go to free public beaches in china. they are gross and trash should be expected. especially a free beach in shenzhen, so nasty.

should have went to one of the many waterparks (some of the best in the world) or hainan island.

MarkyMark 06-06-2014 09:52 AM

I don't know what's more nasty, the garbage or the people who still choose to lay there in it's present state.

i think the difference between this and what happens at celebration of light, or the biggest one would be the New York NYE ball drop... in those 2, it seems to be mainly consumed trash (food wrappers, drink cups, etc), while the pictures from the beach in china look like people just left everything they brought with them (straw mats, beach toys, umbrellas, food, etc). plus the NY NYE festival is 100% cleaned up before 6am the next day.

being china they likely just bulldozed it all into the ocean and built a skyscraper on it :accepted:

Timpo 06-06-2014 08:14 PM

yeah China needs a law like Singapore.

I think Singapore takes this problem seriously and if you throw a cigarette for example, $1,000 fine right there.

entrax 06-06-2014 09:41 PM

hey if they knew it was 362 tonnes, it must be clean already!
