Bad touch up job - Is this fixable?

Previous owner did a shitty job with a touch up pen on the trunk. I'm not even sure if thats the right silver he used (Alpine vs Metallic)

Anyway, outside of a repaint, is this fixable?

Looks like the chip under the touch-up, is right through the paint. So even if you cleaned up the excess touch-up paint by wetsanding/polishing, the chip would remain. It would, however, be a lot less noticeable.

Yes, it can be improved upon A LOT.

The chip needs to be filled in properly, wet sanded down and polished out. There would be a small color difference like ICE BOY said but it would be far less noticeable than it is now.
Also, if you were to get a proper match for the paint you may be able to make it disappear completely if done correctly.

you could most likely get a lot of the run over paint off with rubbing alcohol or a weak paint stripper.

take a look at this video for chip repairs. its a pretty complex process but the results are amazing.

best of luck,

A little lacquer thinner on a towel will remove the touch up paint no problem. Then get yourself the proper touch up paint and carefully reapply.

The thinner won't affect the OEM paint?

It will and you have to be extremely careful when using it. I've seen it stain and burn clear coat, but can be fixed with polish.

Lacquer thinner shouldn't have any effect on the factory paint at all. A little common sense goes a long way. Put a small amount on a mf towel, lightly wipe and repeat if necessary. The thinner dissipates extremely fast. Rewax the area when you're done. If you douche the rag and scrub the crap out of the paint then yes, you will cause some damage. We've been using it to remove stubborn road tar and road paint etc for 20 years and never had an issue. Just don't leave the mf with lacquer thinner on it sitting on your paint.
