Hodgson has been bad this year, but I'll give him at least another year before writing him off. He had a good 1st two years with Buffalo, could be just an off year or not, only time will tell. To his credit, he hasn't complained at being played out of position, shifted through all different lines and the scratches. The Gillis/Hodgson camp issue was way overblown here in Vancouver, Gillis' for the most part was trying to save face and back his coach who had poisoned that relationship from the get go by accusing Hodgson of faking a back injury when really he needed surgery.

I think we can safely classify that as too young to judge. I'd agree on bottom six though but then a large majority of players are projected to be bottom six unless proven otherwise.

how are you getting 24.8 goals/82? That sounds like stretch since the guy has only broken the 20 goal barrier once. Yeah, he'll probably get to 30 when he's healthy again but until then he's overhyped and hasn't exactly proven anything imo.

Kane has played 361 games in the NHL with 109 goals.

By comparison these are the tops in is his draft class:
Duchene - 391 GP, 119 G
Tavares - 404 GP, 160 G

I'll concede he's on a similar pace as the elite players from his draft class and the surrounding years but i still can't see him as a star. Tavares would be a star, Duchene maybe but Kane, not yet.
109*82/361 = 24.8

Math

Armia hasn't been a point producer at literally any level (including junior where he was still well under 1 point per game), what makes you think he suddenly becomes an offensive juggernaut in his mid-20s? There's no evidence to support him becoming anything more than a bottom 6 forward. By contrast, Kane had already scored 80 NHL goals at the same stage of his career. Lemieux would be the prospect with offensive upside, but he's the one that's too young to judge. If he becomes anything like his dad, the Jets will have a heck of a player.

Kane may never be a superstar, but he's easily a 50+ point player (when healthy) that is also very physical. Those players are tremendously valuable. If it weren't for his off-ice issues, no team would trade a guy like Kane at his age. The X-factor is whether or not those off-ice issues will eventually sink his career or he'll smarten up and get his shit together.

I think it's a good trade for both sides. Both teams get usable assets.

Only loser is Kane, who gets to go to one of the only NHL cities that's colder and just generally worse than Winnipeg.

Buffalo is nowhere close to being colder than Winnipeg.

Buffalo's average high in January is -0.4C. Winnipeg's is -11.3C.

Shittier? Haven't been to either, but Buffalo at least has Niagara Falls and is close to some nice cities like Toronto.

Jeff O'Neil was saying today that if he ever had to play for the Sabres, he would have commuted from Toronto for games and practices. If Kane doesn't care about the fans, maybe thats an option for him.

Personally, I would say the city of Buffalo is actually an upgrade to Winnipeg & Edmonton, slight one. None of the 3 are top destinations, the City of Buffalo itself is an old industrial boring city, but there are a number of affluent areas just outside of Buffalo that a lot of former NHL and NFL players have ended up retiring to, similar to Detroit, city itself isn't great but surrounding areas are. Given Kane spends a lot of his off time in casinos, he'll enjoy the 2 giant casinos in the Niagara/Buffalo area.....which might not be good for the Sabres.

Not shocked, Tim Murray had said all year the plan was to move forward with either 1 of Enroth or Neuvirth.

Alright, so maybe I'm basing all that off this year and Snowmageddon. I have a friend that lives in Winterpeg and even though it sucks, his roof has never been on the verge of collapse because of snowfall.

Not every single one, no

If anyone other than 7seven made that claim, I wouldn't believe it for a second. I still find it hard to believe anyone would choose to retire in Buffalo over... pretty much any other city in America.

As far as cities for an NHLer to play in, Buffalo is probably America's version of Winnipeg. Not nearly as bad of course (is there anywhere as bad as Winnipeg?), but it's not like playing in LA or NY or even Glenndale

Darryl Sittler retired there too until moving back to Ontario a couple of years ago for a job with the Leafs. Marcel Dionne retired there too but moved a few years ago. There are more, thats just the ones I recall right now, Pominville I now is keeping his place in Amherst as well.

So basically that's where Canadians go to retire, since I guess they don't mind the weather

lol i hate math...but i gotta admit that's a handy little formula

You can't compare Armia to Kane, they may be similar age but Kane is ahead in terms of development. 5 years of pro playing doesn't mean shit because he hardly has any NA skating experience. You can't exactly count him out and call him too old because of that. Then throwing stupid stats around doesn't exactly help your cause because stats are so easy to manipulate. Being a ppg in Junior doesn't mean shit if it doesn't translate over to the NHL. Just because he hasn't had a 30 goal season like Kane at 22 doesn't mean he'll be a bottom six plug. Using junior stats is a decent predictor but its never a sure thing. I don't usually like using stats but let's give it a go...

Armia averaged 0.66 pts/game in SM-liiga
Jussi Jokinen averaged 0.63 pts/game in SM-liiga
Miko Koivu averaged 0.38 pts/ in SM-liiga
Lets's go wit some more contemporary Finnish players...
Flippula was 0.46 pts/game in SM-liiga
Aleksander Barkov averaged 0.75 pts/game in the SM-liiga
Korpikoski scored 13 points in 92 games in the SM-liiga
Bergenheim scored 7 points in 90 games

Lucic for argument's sake was 0.65 pts/game with the Giants.

Just cause he's not a point a game player doesn't mean he's a total bust. He doesn't need to be an offensive juggarnaut. At 6'3 200+ there's lots of room for growth and improvement. He's certainly a good fit for the Jets' current system so who's to say it won't positively affect his development? Throwing Finnish junior numbers doesn't mean a thing. I could do it too. There's plenty of factors that could well see him be a key cog in Jets' organization.

Either way, they traded Kane for Armia, Lemieux and this year's first rounder which is more than plenty for a player who may or may not throw tantrums.
Afaic, Jets win this now. Lemme know when Kane scores 30 again.

Pretty much, I wouldn't choose to retire there personally, but I guess some like the quiter suburb, lake front life. That and the old money, CNN Money Mag named East Amherst one of the best places to live a few years back.

Considering Buffalo basically traded Stafford, Armia, Lemieux, and a first for Kane, would you guys do Higgins, Jensen, Cassels, and a first for Kane?

Anything to get rid of Higgins and bring in a legit top 6 forward
