Suggestions for a good tailor?

Hi,

I'd like to get all of my suits tailored for a slimmer fit. I guess I could buy new suits, but I like the ones I have and spent a fair bit on them a couple of years ago.

Can anyone suggest a reliable tailor? Vancouver would be best.

Thanks in advance

Alberts Tailor is fantastic value and exceptional work.

Address: 470 Granville St #227, Vancouver, BC V6C 1V5
Phone:(604) 683-2890

Albert rarely shows up for work when he says he'll be opening, so if the sign says 1pm, plan for 2pm or a bit later. After you see him, however, he always has the work done when he says he will. The only other key, is know what you want. Some tailors keep up on latest fashion trends, cuts, etc. Albert doesn't seem to, but his work is so exceptional (and cheap) that if you know what you want it doesn't matter.

Albert has twice been late in fixing my stuff. This is frustrating because it takes time to go there and then he tells me its not yet ready when he said it would be. I'm not going back anymore.

Strange, I've been using him for 8+ years, never had a problem. None of my referrals have either, but I suppose its bound to happen.

Hey thanks for the advice! It does help to know things like this in advance!

Thank you to everyone for all your suggestions!
I've seen a few others on this board suggest Albert's, so I'm thinking of giving it a try.
Oakridge tailor is close to my work, so it'll be my back up.

Tony Wong in Richmond between Aberdeen Centre and Parker Place where The Optical Centre is.

I recommend Oakridge Tailor as well.
They tailored well on my suit.

I'm getting my first suit tailored at Oakridge Tailor, it was a 4 week wait, im picking it up on the 31st of this month. Super excited to see how it looks. He was really nice and took proper measurements and talked me through everything. Expensive, yes, but well worth it for the service i recieved, and hopefully the final product matches up. I have high expectations.

^ if you don't mind me asking

what parts did u get altered and price?

instantneedles 07-25-2014 12:58 PM

i second albert's tailor. yeah he might be an old guy, but from what I see, he caters to a pretty young crowd, so even if he doesn't keep up with trends, etc online, i'm sure his knowledge is updated based on the clientelle he caters to

i got my coat fixed there, and he did the job for what the price pays for

albert has no sense of time lol, no professionalism with being punctual whatsoever, guess it comes with age. would not go back if i was rushed

Oakridge Tailors

they have been nothing but nice to me. granted, I am no tailoring expert nor have i tailored too many items, but for the 2 or 3 years i have been there they have been honest and fair

i have had black dress pants slimmed down by them. did a good job

nabs 07-31-2014 03:11 PM

Amazing job! So glad I went there! Everything was exactly how he mentioned it. His suggestions were spot on!

Oakridge tailors recommended.

^:thumbsup: Two thumbs up for Oakridge Tailors. Will and his wife (I think) do a great job at a reasonable price (not cheap though).

He's Manchester United fan to boot! Supported.

Looking to get a leather jacket adjusted (bringing in the sides/chest by 1" or so). Anyone have recommendations? I know that Oakridge has an exceptional reviews but barely any of them are leather related.

Anyone recommend a place in Vancouver West besides Oakridge Tailors? I'd normally go to them but I can't do the 3 week turnaround in this case.

TIA

I highly suggest "Threads Alterations" on Cambie.
Threads Fashion Alterations - Vancouver Alterations

Got new suit plus "slimmed" my old suit. They did great. Just make sure you give them enough time to do the job + last minute adjustments.

CCA-Dave 07-07-2015 03:31 PM

Reviving an old thread. I swung by Albert's Tailor last week at about 3pm to get some work done, only to discover he's changed his hours to 4:30-8:30.

Looking for a good option with better hours, need to have some shirts slimmed down. Who's a good, and current, choice?

Thread's Alterations. Michael is a great guy to work with.

+1

Auntie here takes care of you and actually cares about her work.

If something isn't right, she'll fix it.

She's a Vietnamese lady that speaks cantonese and also owns a dry cleaner IIRC. So if you need to get it tailored, you could probably ask her to dry clean it too!

Where to take to get my suit sleeve shortened?
