Impact Homelessness

Someone shared this on my Facebook. You may have seen it on your wall, too. I'm just here to say this organization reeks of a similar stench to Kony2012.

Other than awareness, this group does jack shit. Homeless people are people. I get it. What is there call to action, other than:

Quote:

Our goal is to work with the top leaders from each sector of our community and rally them together in a common plan to fight homelessness in Central Florida.
Their 'blog' doesn't have too many entries, and so far, it's just about raising awareness. Anyways, if you see this being posted, you may want to give a smackdown.

underscore 07-17-2014 02:43 PM

Thanks for the heads up, sadly I know a few "activists" who jump all over dumb shit without doing any research. If their only goal is to raise awareness then give'r (I don't see anything about donations on their site) but if they start asking for donations they can buzz off.

George Takei shared this today =/ Good to know it's just garbage, won't bother watching it

George Takei got on the Kony bandwagon, as well!

Anyways, don't take my word for it. Click a few pages and get your own opinion. I'm just sick of awareness campaigns.

I would never give money cause someone puts up a sappy video like this. People are so fucken stupid and they deserve to be scammed if something like this makes them open of their wallets..

Timpo 07-17-2014 04:35 PM

I think many of these people can still be "normal people" if they don't give up and don't get addicted to drugs and alcohol. It's about motivation, drive, dedication and all that.

I know they're people but let's face it, the world is unfair. Get over it.
Sometimes the completely innocent nicest people get false executed...and the other times serial murders will never get prosecuted due to lack of evidence.

Some people become billionaire or CEO by accident. Price of kingdom just because where they're born.
Whereas others that are born in Africa will die within a week due to starvation.
Some kids suffer cancer at very young age, whereas some potheads never get cancer.

It's all about how lucky you are, what kind of turning point of life you have, who you meet, where you are, etc...and your willingness to change life too.

Why am I not surprised by that. I love George Takei, but sometimes I think he thinks too much with his heart and not enough with his brain.

I just googled Impact Homelessness and other than a huffington post story and their website, nada came up for them. So unless I'm searching the wrong terms (which, honestly could be possible) seems a little shady to me. Not only that, but they support United Way, which has had more than a handful of scandals around how much money actually goes to the people they're supposed to help.

Women can star in porn, escort, or webcam for money so it's a wonder why any woman could be homeless?

Maybe poor work ethic, a lack of a hustler's soul

Men who are homeless are worthless to society and noone would bat an eye if they all died off

have u slept on the streets before? i duno know about u but i have a couple times & its not fun

some of them suffer problems too, which is why they cant fit back in to society

Hondaracer 07-17-2014 08:56 PM

not going to watch it or even bother reading description

honestly, for me, I already donate annually to a bunch of good causes and research etc. Aside from that it's hard enough to do what i want to do with the funds available. I dont need to be giving out freebies to everyone and neither should anyone else as far as i'm concerned.

Yep, slept in a park, in a car, in basements on furnace room floors, haha. I was homeless from like 15-17.5 or so!

It is hell, you feel so unwanted and it does leave a stain

but hey, life's rough, get a helmet

Gucci Mane 07-17-2014 11:05 PM

as far as im concerned, homeless people who are able to work should be picked up and sent off into the mines, farms and what ever else jobs that these big companies need foreign workers for.

GS8 07-17-2014 11:37 PM

Yeah their blog looks outdated. They also posted 1-2 min pieces on some of the people. Not asking for donations from what I've seen. Just straight up awareness and a link to their site.

I guess we still need to be reminded that there are homeless people around? I can safely say most of us know someone who became homeless either through actions at their own hands or growing up in absolutely shitty circumstances.

I use to donate and help out in the soup kitchens a long time ago till I found myself slowly going broke. You want to help everyone but logic kicks in and you have no choice but to step back and look out for yourself first.

Slightly off topic: I don't pay attention to most of the shit that people on my social media feeds post. Half of them still believe The Onion and The Daily Currant post real stories.

Thanked specifically for the last sentence :lol my Aunt is really bad for that

nabs 07-17-2014 11:45 PM

one of the most useless awareness campaigns... what color is your bra today?

That one made no sense to me at all and had to be explained, and it still made no sense.

I have always been a firm believer that actions speak louder than words. And I agree with OP that awareness campaigns with no action behind it mean nothing.

Kind of like house them in sheds on the farm. Maybe feed them a little but don't give them access to transportation or education.

JaPoola 07-17-2014 11:55 PM

I'm already "donating" almost half my income to the government that's supposed to be taking care of this problem. So yeah, not donating shit to these guys or anyone else for that matter.

If you're homeless...how can you afford a helmet?

I also think some people are missing O.P.'s point...Get informed, think for yourself and make your own decisions and opinions. Some have simply read the first post and immediately gone on to "ya not gonna bother watching, it's a scam."

On another note, this awareness campaign is pretty good because now I know there are homeless people around Florida. Better re-think that Disney World trip.

Of course there are, it's warm in Florida.

Inaii 07-18-2014 11:59 AM

There's homeless people everywhere, I'm not sure why you would think they don't exist in Florida.

4444 07-18-2014 01:02 PM

wtf, you have a biology degree? so. you went to modelling school... ok, that obviously didn't work out for you. you were a figure skater

they all talk about things they did, not things they do.

i know the economy's tough - guess what, it's probably never going to get any better. toughen up, take a shitty job, if it earns you money, you're one up versus today. rent a room for a couple hundred bucks... beats being homeless, i'm sure.

of course, this is not a comment to those with disabilities or mental ailments, but no one there had those (there were some medical, which i appreciate)

BS campaign made by bleeding heart hipsters with nothing better to do, but somehow have funding - maybe their start up funding could go to a better use than wasting our time with bs youtube videos

at least these ppl are literate, they could all write on that card

yeah degree doesn't mean shit these days.

I know a woman who works as a receptionist and she has a Master's degree in Environment.
I know a couple of people with Business and Commerce degree and working at gas station and 7-Eleven.
Also there's bus driver who has an Education degree.
