1,000 foot long water slip-and-slide coming to Vancouver?

WOW I'm so down, this would be so much fun :woot2:

Slide The City: 1,000 foot long water slip-and-slide coming to Vancouver (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)

Quote:

Remember your childhood backyard slip-and-slide? Imagine something that’s about seventy times longer and in the middle of a hilly street.

On Saturday, thousands of Salt Lake residents of all ages slid down a 1,000-foot long and 22-foot wide water slide down the city’s Main Street. The plastic slide sits on a layer of foam and ends in a 75-foot long pool with 3-foot deep waters.

Tickets for the Salt Lake City event started from $15 for single slides, increasing to $25 for triple slides and $35 for unlimited access. A $45 VIP pass gave a few the opportunity to exclusively slide with other VIP pass holders for an hour, along with lunch and perks such as a t-shirt, hat and water gun.

Proceeds went towards the Ronald McDonald House and Utah Aids Foundation.

All 3,000 tickets sold out, including 2,000 during the pre-sale phase and 1,000 on the day of at the site. One hundred volunteers began the process of set-up at 6 a.m. so that the attraction could open by its scheduled opening at noon and close by 7 p.m.

Besides the main slide attraction, the family-friendly event also features “live music, food and drinks”. A Vancouver side attraction could even potentially incorporate food carts and street performers.

Organizers of Salt Lake City’s Slide The City intend to bring their touring urban festival to the streets of Vancouver. There is no set date, but Vancouver is on the list and map of American and Canadian cities the attraction intends to reach.

According to KUTV, the next stops on the West Coast tour are Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.

It is anyone’s guess where such a 1,000 foot (305 metre) long slide, equivalent to the length of three FIFA soccer fields, could be located. Such a street would also need to be on a hill.

i'd be up for this lol

i could see it happening down Boundary Road before Hastings and all the way past it

shawnly1000 07-23-2014 10:37 AM

inb4 no fun city doesn't allow it

m3thods 07-23-2014 10:38 AM

^That'd probably be too steep.

My guess is that they'd close down 4th Ave west of Burrard. There's a gentle slope East towards Burrard, and you put it in a region that already has no-car days. Add in the transit-rich nature of the neighbourhood, and you'll get a ton of people out.

Commercial drive would be another candidate for a location, but I don't think there are any real slopes.

Edit: 4th Ave should be a priority, considering the demographic

Haha good. That'd be the best part. I know a few steeper hills than boundary. I should forward them to the organizers.

Little kids going rocketting down like a 10% grade. Setup a video camera and profit...

bcedhk 07-23-2014 10:53 AM

they should put it down on SFU mountain.

shawnly1000 07-23-2014 11:01 AM

Oak street slope between 2nd/Broadway or if you really want a crazy slope, Royal Oak in Burnaby southwards from Rumble

Is there a date for this? I'd rip down for the weekend to do it.

Lomac 07-23-2014 11:10 AM

won't happen because it'll be wasting water and taking up bike-lane space

kunoman1 07-23-2014 07:46 PM

Bouncing Bettys 07-23-2014 08:24 PM

Someone will take a soggy dump on it or try to light it on fire.

604STIG 07-24-2014 08:30 AM

Looks stupid when the dude in the video has to keep getting up to get going again, if you can't get a continuous slide then it would just suck.

Boundary and Marine down the big hill!!!

When I was 19 and driving a 5 ton truck, I lost the brakes coming down that hill with a full load and went through the intersection at 70 kph with 25,000 lbs of shit in the back, rush hour.

I thank the Lord every day that coincidentally I managed to drive across all 6 lanes of traffic without killing anyone, fuck!

Some crackhead in Vancouver would shit their pants and slide down it, leaving a 1000 ft skid mark

Zoidberg 07-24-2014 01:46 PM

With Gregor holding the reins, it will probably only happen if the waterslide has a separated bike lane.

GabAlmighty 07-24-2014 03:12 PM

Rub yourself down in Vaseline. You'll make it to the bottom.
