The Official Xiaomi Thread

anyone using a Xiaomi here?

I have the first gen Hongmi (HK version). Serving me as a secondary phone and testing device.

Build quality is great for a low-end phone, but I RMA it twice in the first month due to faulty hardware. Nothing wrong after they replaced it with the newer batch.

MIUI is very user friendly right out of the box. Some people say it is too iphoneish, whatever you like to say, it is god damn stable, you get update almost every month. Those inhouse software in thesecurity centre are awesome, ram booster, virus scan, battery saver, useless folder cleaner, incoming call blocker etc.

Again, people buy Hongmi in Asia uses it as secondary phone, it doesn't have highend spec, LTE, NFC, wireless charger, finger scanner. If you carry 2 phones around all the time, this is a great choice for $140 only.

asian_XL 07-30-2014 09:17 PM

That what happen to me early, i charged the phone with aftermarket cable and fucked something up, the service centre said the USB port was dead.

Interesting article..
Xiaomi issues fix amid privacy scare over its cloud messaging service

Apparently Xiaomi has been logging phone user info on their servers - unencrypted.

more specifically their servers in China. Now with the new update a lot of apps won't load or update and even some browswer won't run at all.......... I wonder if it is because all the data is getting routed back to China and then out to your phone so the Chinese gov can log and see what you are searching/Doing and decided if they allow you to go through with the apps you are using or the stuff you are searching......

ae101 08-11-2014 09:13 PM

i have not updated my phone yet (im on 4.4.2 running miui 18.0)

not sure if i want to do the update or not

Iceman_2K 08-13-2014 01:13 PM

Its not bad so far - have both an iPhone 5c and the Mi3. The Mi3 has a nice screen - too bad I have to give it back to the owner soon lol

Not so -- newspapers (from TW?) found that even after the update, the phones were still contacting and sending stuff to Beijing.

Some people don't have any issues with that, and some will say Android and Apple phones do exactly the same thing. For me, I have a little more faith in Google and Apple than I do with a Mainland Chinese company sending my personal info to China.

ae101 08-13-2014 08:44 PM

i have been getting laggs & freezes on my mi3, which pisses me off as the screen would black out while my home button light & the other 2 beside it would light up as well (but screen still black out)

also yesterday my when this happen my flash light would automatically turn on when my screen blacks out

this has been a major problem since i have update to there kit kat

^ you are 2 weeks behind. They have already patched the server thing.
As always, I use a spare gmail account, never put company information, and save a lot of porn in the phone, so the NSA will be busy checking them out instead of my contact. lol

Order a XIAOMI 5V 2.1A 16000mAh Power Bank. When I go back to China last year I brought my power bank with me but when I exit China the customs won't let me pass with it because it doesn't have some logo on it to prof that it is safe to carry out of China. Try to let them know I got this from Canada and they let me bring in......

No go so I just left it with the customs. Hopefully since I will be using a China brand power bank I will be able to enter and exit China with it.

I actually wanted to buy this 50000mAh External Power Bank Backup Dual USB Battery Charger FOR Cell Phone Blue | eBay
or
50000mAh Backup External Battery USB Power Bank Charger FOR Cell Phone | eBay
but don't want to lose my power bank again lol.

For the Xiaomi power bank, people have to watch out there are many good counterfeit products. Should not buy anything outside their official website. Anyway, I have the 1gen power bank bought from Xiaomi.com, it is labelled as 5000mah and 2.1A, people in their forums have been complaining it has way less than 5000mah and only 1.5A in real life. The white usb cable is also shitty made, mine stopped working after 3 weeks.

I also own their Xiaomi AC router. Spec sounds awesome to people and I thought it would fit my parents place where basic wifi is needed. No complaint on the quality or reception, but you might stay away if you can't read Chinese or get used to DD-WRT and DDNS. Security is also an issue, when you plug an USB to the router, they mess up all folders and it can easily sync with any Xiaomi products nearby. It's about time for me to go back to TP-link with DD-WRT.

The wrist band and their Xiaomi Box are the 2 things I have less complaint. It is great if you have everything Xiaomi and you are in China. They are cheap indeed, but not everything inside you need and you will use.
