It's a valid point, but at the same time you have to think about how many of these relatively unknown diseases are lacking proper funding because they don't receive any sort of mainstream attention. Yes, proportionally this one is receiving an "unfair" amount of attention, but maybe (doubtfully, unfortunately) this one giant push of funding will be enough to help finally find a cure.

SkinnyPupp 08-21-2014 07:35 PM

It's actually at $31 million so far... I guess that isn't too disruptive. So I guess this can only be seen as a good, if annoying, thing

murd0c 08-21-2014 07:37 PM

its at $41 million so far and the Canadian ALS foundation has 2 million with a goal of 3 million

PeanutButter 08-21-2014 09:02 PM

The people who are criticizing this competition SUCK!
There is no point in arguing with these kinds of people. It isn't even worth your energy.

A wise person told me If you have haters you're doing something right. Clearly this challenge is doing it right.

And hundreds of people donating to Ovey just so she doesn't have to feel "financial burden", when millions of people are dying everyday is right?

At the end of the day someone is always going to be worse off, people help where they feel compelled, and helping anywhere I consider a good thing. Much better than everyone just being selfish, and not helping anyone.

yeah it became a talking point ever since steve-o, charlie sheen, and bill gates spoke out, now more people are actually donating, and mentioning the reason they are doing it.

Who? What? What are you talking about? I didn't say anything like that.

Not every life is equal, only the people with fans and people who care about them matter

Supposedly neurological diseases could pass cancer for number of deaths in the fairly near future, so if we can bump off a pretty nasty one as soon as possible it'll be awesome.

Ulic Qel-Droma 08-22-2014 11:40 AM

yeah ALS doesn't affect that many people, but if they could fix ALS, that would mean they could fix a lot of other things too (and the brain is one thing i would like them to put more effort into maintaining/fixing)... i know eventually all my other body parts can fail and be replaced with machines or cloned or printed versions... but the brain... we can achieve immortality of the body, but not the mind...

and maybe stephen hawking can live longer and think of more shit, lol, his knowledge and insight alone is worth more than 1,000,000 normal people's lives. hahaha.

so yeah in my perspective, if we can even put 10 more years in HIS life, and only his life alone, it's worth it. but the reality is, it will affect more than just him.

I'm not one for the huge waste of water, but before you bash something know the story at least. - See page 1 for the story/video.

I never bashed what this whole "campaign" is about im just bashing at how its the new fad and its everywhere and its starting to annoy me.

Kinda like how i like "edm" or w.e, then seeing it become the new fad and seeing it plastered everywhere pisses me off.

Thanks for nominating me!?!?? You have 24 hours to complete the ALS challenge~~~~!!

If Revscene can come up with $2000 by next Thursday, August 28, 2014, I will stop riding my bikes for the remainder of the year.

I challenge you, Revscene. :fuckyea:

Bonus: I will even stop drinking hipster coffee and espresso for the remainder of the year.

lol if this stuff like this annoys you..id hate to be you. Is it really that hard to move past it ? not like you have to click every single one and watch through the torture of it so you can rant at the end

westopher 08-23-2014 11:13 PM

I have nothing too important to add here other than I would like to shoot all of the people protesting how the ALS ice bucket challenge "wastes water."
Take a fucking minute shorter shower then you dipfucks. Ban pools and toilets. People can find a way to criticize even the best intentions. ALS is one of the most devastating diseases imaginable, I think a few wasted buckets of water to raise $41 million dollars for research of a horrendous disease that no one really understands much about is pretty good use of that water.

Pretty much this.

Out of all the things you could complain about this particular challenge, wasting water is like the worst possible angle you could come at it from...

Spoiler!

LOL did you really just try and compare "EDM" a music genre to a viral campaign designed to help people suffering from a disease!?!

Even if I was going to make a stupid argument, I would try and make the BEST stupid argument I possibly could. It's like you're not even trying!
