What to prepare for Whistler-Lillooet-Cache Creek-Hope solo drive?

I am planing to do this trip soon while it is sunny. I d like to know what to prepare for such a long drive. Particularly, I am not expecting wireless coverage for much of the journey, what would be the mean of tele communication out there? Thanks

Might need snow tires?

I didn't thought about snow. Is the road already covered with snow? Car is currently riding michelin PSAS3.

Why are you doing this drive? And when exactly? It might be clear skies the last week, but its cold as fuck up here.

Sounds as though you shouldn't be making this drive if it takes a thread to prepare you for the trip.

Do some research, go buy a proper vehicle survival kit. Mine is a standard duffle bag with food, a first aid kit, jumper cables, some maintenance stuff, a warm blanket, etc.

Tell someone when you are leaving, and when you will check in once you have arrived at your destination.

And above all else, avoid making the drive solo, or at all unless you absolutely have to.

It seems to be a much recommended route for recreational driving. Well afterall this thread is worthwhile, otherwise I d just go this weekend. Thanks for your input.

It's a recommended route for driving in the summer, it's winter now... :/

:lol

I would check the road conditions here before you head out.

Make sure you have a mountain/snowflake or M+S on your tires (and that the tread is not worn past the 1st set of wear bars!!!). It's MANDATORY on that route for this time of year.

op, depending on the vehicle you've got, id be willing to do this trip with you. make sure you bring tow straps so i can pull you out if need be :)

i just did this run a couple weeks ago minus the cache creek and it's definitely a fun course to drive.

not sure about other cell carriers but i had no reception between pemberton and hope with rogers so I don't recommend running solo.

Bring the people who raised you as well....give back for all they've done for you. I'm sure they'd appreciate the memories of this trip.

jaretron 11-14-2014 08:47 AM

WTF? its a road, go drive it.
Enjoy.

Pilot Sport A/S 3s are not gonna cut it. You're gonna need some Blizzaks, X-Ice or Alpins for your trip.

I drove the Coqahalla during a snow storm in a supercharged S2000 on bald summer tires

You'll be fine

Gucci Mane 11-14-2014 12:00 PM

check the weather forecasts, if theres no snow, then just take off. if there is, invest in proper equipment. thats all there really is to it..

That's because Rogers sucks donkey dick. Telus is the only way to go if you even venture away, but even with Telus you'll lose reception a few times.

Ehhh.

My company phone is with bell, and the personal phone is with rogers, and they both are pretty shitty. lol

I say drive it! Sunny weekend and that drive is amazing scenery! I would def recommend snow tires tho..

BrRsn 11-14-2014 04:01 PM

do it, if you get towed by Jamie Davis I'll be sure to host a viewing party at my place for whatever episode of "highway thru hell" you appear on

Iron Chef 11-15-2014 06:23 AM

You guys are such pussies. There hasn't been any precipitation all week , its cold but it's sunny. There major roads so they get maintained but it's a moot point because it's been sunny all week.

He's not driving to timbucktoo. Just go and enjoy it while the weather is nice.

Rogers is definitely shittier than Telus/Bell, especially out of town.
